Strong together: Christmas greetings from the Rector

In his video Christmas message, Rector Alexander Kratzsch looks back on the past year and wishes a Merry Christmas on behalf of the Rectorate.

The year 2023 is only a few days away! Time to review the most important events at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

In his Christmas greetings, the Rector, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, addresses students, staff, professors and all members of the university. He talks to student Aileen about the continuous development of the university and looks back on the highlights, challenges and defining events of 2023.

From the successful introduction of the interdisciplinary Green Engineering degree course to the strategic work of the Senate Commission on the further development of the university and the major steps taken by university projects such as the "Future Learning Location Oberlausitz - ZukLOS", Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences consistently pursued the path of transformation in 2023 and will continue to do so in 2024.

Rector Kratzsch makes it clear that strong cooperation and collaboration, characterized by mutual openness and understanding for one another, are particularly important to him.

He would particularly like to thank those who have contributed their ideas and commitment to their university of the future in a variety of ways as part of the University For Future process. Be it in the university's own workshops, at major events or in smaller discussion groups.

The new year will bring new challenges for the HSCG. The university will also face these and act as a community.

January
  • Bautzen Employment Agency and HSZG reaffirm their cooperation with the conclusion of a cooperation agreementto keep young people in the region.
     
  • Following the peer-to-peer strategy consultation of the University Forum on Digitalization, the HSZG is implementing measures for the digitalization of studying and teaching in a participatory process. digitization of studies and teaching as part of the University-For-Future process and is participating in the SMWK/LRK kick-off workshop "Digital Transformation in Higher Education" to jointly develop an umbrella strategy for the Saxon higher education landscape.

  • With a varied program, the HSZG was able to celebrate the Open University Day and was able to convince over 750 guests of its range of courses.

  • Handover of the funding decision for the investment measure AQVA-HEAT II by the Saxon Ministry for Regional Development

  • University Senate decides to make the climate protection management. The decision of the University Senate sets the course for climate protection and the achievement of climate neutrality by 2040.
June
  • The HSZG can look back on an extremely successful participation in the training and study fair INSIDERTREFF in Löbau, where over 4,000 visitors enthusiastically explored the wide range of opportunities on offer.
  • The regional network for science, research and education founds the association Hi!Lusatia. The HSZG is a member.
     
  • The project Future Learning Location Upper Lusatia - ZukLOS has made great strides this year. One component is the DLR_School_Lab in Zittau as an extracurricular learning location. With exciting experiments and close cooperation with the DLR, scientific phenomena and technical innovations are to be made tangible for children and young people. Planning for the experimental house at the Görlitz site and the "mobile learning locations" area is also progressing. Based on feedback from events such as the Teaching Day or the major event organized by the Faculty of Management and Cultural Sciences "Future Spaces" on June 28, , the university plans to implement ideas for the design of innovative teaching and learning spaces in the "Campus 4 You" area in thecoming year.
  • The strategic work of the Senate Commission was concluded with a detailed report as a guide to the future development of the university and led to the establishment of the implementation planning working group to continue the university's transformation.
July
  • 46 graduates of the preparatory college of the HSZG from 16 countries receive their certificates and can now begin their studies in Germany.
     
  • In June, the long-standing Chancellor Karin Hollstein was bid farewell. Christoph Duscha will take up the position on July 1, 2023. office of Chancellor as chancellor.

  • The Saxon Film Academy is delighted to have so many graduates from its courses this year. The HSZG is particularly pleased that the Görlitz campus itself has become a film star. In August, filming took place here for the third part of the successful movie series "The School of Magical Animals".
  • The HSZG is successfully involved in the region's structural change projects. Particularly noteworthy here is the Center for Green Circular Economy, or CircEcon. As a research cluster, CircEcon will set standards for sustainable production and climate compatibility. The inaugural meeting of the steering committee took place on August 16 at TU Dresden.

  • With the new campus app "MyHSZG" students and members of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences have been able to organize their life at and with the HSZG in the best possible way since the start of winter semester 23/24.
  • The HSZG has completed the audit to become a family-friendly university and is well on the way to receiving the certificate next year to officially designate itself as a 'family-friendly university'. Goals and measures are set out in a target agreement.
     
  • The university magazine EINBLICK was reissued and, with its focus on women in their various spheres of activity at the HSZG, not only paid tribute to the successes and contributions of women at our university, but also made a clear statement in the direction of equality.

  • In the impulse project "Biorefinery, material recycling, energy and carbon", researchers from LaNDER³ are working together with partner companies within the research focus on energy and carbon on the conversion ofCO2 into solid carbon. The team is conducting research with the help of an SCCS plant developed at the HSZG, a unique plant in Germany in which solid carbon is produced fromCO2.
     
  • The GAT Institute is involved in the development of an AI-based software platform for self-determined living in old age.
     
  • In October, for the first time in four years due to the pandemic, a graduation ceremony took place. This year, we were able to celebrate our graduates in a marquee on the Görlitz campus and send them off well equipped for their professional future.
     
  • Successful launch of the interdisciplinary Green Engineering degree course with the participation of the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Natural and Environmental Sciences
     
  • Dual study program on the upswing - Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science draws attention to KIA offerings and attracts students through student internships.

  • The HSZG is a guest in Ulaanbaatar in Mongoliato promote international cooperation and academic exchange at the Saxon Education and Science Days.
     
  • Our podcast offer is growing and growing: In our "hi@hszg - Podcast" we take prospective students into the world of our degree programs. In March, the HSZG presented its first science podcast for children. In November, our environmental podcast series "Green stuff against the apocalypse" was successfully launched and provides information on topics relating to climate protection.
