Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has existed in the three-country region of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic since 1992. More than almost any other university, it stands for new beginnings and change. Its location makes the HSZG a bridge between Central and Eastern Europe. The subject of energy has been in its genes since it was founded. And the transformation of the economy, work and society can hardly be better researched in Germany than in Upper Lusatia.
In the heart of Europe, students are researching solutions for the future. They find perfect conditions: First-class supervision rates, no crowds in the lecture hall, modern laboratories and technical equipment, exciting research projects and internships, international exchange, short distances, affordable rents and a lovable region. Students can feel at home and realize their potential here. They research cutting-edge topics and improve our world as problem solvers.
To ensure that the university remains fit for the future, it is constantly evolving. Green Engineering, the Health Campus and the Continuing Education Campus are just three of the buzzwords in the extensive University for Future process. Students, professors and our 500 or so employees are all involved in shaping the "University of the Future".
Our students and teaching staff benefit from a wide range of exchange opportunities and get to know other languages and cultures. International contacts are organized by the International Office in Zittau and Görlitz. They also provide advice on international exchange programs such as ERASMUS+ and internships abroad.
Cooperation exists with a large number of international universities and business institutions. The HSZG is a member of three networks to foster international cooperation: The Baltic University Program consists of 225 universities and research institutions in the countries of the Baltic Sea region. It supports courses, conferences, research projects and summer schools at Bachelor's and Master's level. The focus is on sustainability, democracy and environmental protection.
The HSZG is also a member of the Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences (CDHAW). Students studying mechatronics or industrial engineering have the opportunity to participate in the CDHAW program of Tongji University and the consortium of German universities. The Indo-German Center for Higher Education (IGCHE) is an association of Indian and German universities. Students from both cultures gain intensive insights into the study and business systems of their host countries.
Whether it is the optimization of power plant processes and automation technology, biotechnology, specific surface properties for high-voltage fittings or regional social development processes - the expertise of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is widely known and sought after by partner institutions from industry and society as well as by researchers.
Three main areas of research characterize the HSZG. In addition to Energy and the environment and transformation processes in business and society, it specializes in material-structure-surfaces. Five of the university's own institutes conduct research in these areas. Close links to local SMEs and large companies in Germany and abroad ensure a permanent transfer of practical experience. So much proximity to real life pays off when it comes to starting a career. The high placement rates of our graduates are proof of this.
Our University is an employer that believes it is important to foster the development of personnel on the basis of equal opportunities and family-friendliness. We facilitate and appreciate outstanding performance. We have built an environment that motivates employees, where the active commitment of everyone involved and an open mind for change are essential.
