  • NEW! Hackdays in schools for pupils in year 8 - ideas workshop with Make Your School
    Logo Make Your School

We promote an interest in computer science, technology and digital tools among pupils in year 8. To this end, three-day hackdays are held at each school with up to 50 pupils to implement ideas in a model way.

The proven concept for this comes from the "Make Your School" project. With this project, Wissenschaft im Dialog gGmbH, with significant support from the Klaus Tschira Foundation, provides new impetus for everyday school life. The HSZG joined this nationwide network in 2024 in order to bring even more young people in Upper Lusatia into contact with digital technology and interest them in STEM professions.

    When?

In the 2024/25 school year, the implementation period is January to July 2025. Dates are arranged individually as part of the registration process (see below).

    Where?

In 2 grammar schools and 2 secondary schools in East Saxony within a radius of up to 75 km from the HSZG.

    With what?

Fully equipped material sets with sensors, actuators, programmable electronics and conventional handicraft materials are brought to the schools by the HSZG.

    Who is responsible?

Qualified mentors will guide the pupils during the hackdays. They work according to an established concept from MYS (scientifically supported and matured over the years).

    How do they do it?

Teacher workshops are held in advance with the cooperating teachers from the four schools in order to make the framework conditions of these project days transparent.

    What are the costs?

    Free of charge for schools

    How to register?

Schools should register their interest in writing to the HSZG by 23.08.24 (see contact below). We will then select four schools and get in touch with them.

  • Try out studying from grade 8

Pupils come to the university for a day and get a taste of studying.

    • For pupils in years 8 and 9, the aim is to consolidate their inclinations and interests. They are assigned to the topics in our subject catalog in advance (see under Downloads).
    • For pupils in grades 10-13, the aim is to orientate themselves towards their studies. For this purpose, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the HSZG's degree courses on the website in advance and to assign yourself to a degree course on a trial basis.

In addition to the academic exchange, the program also includes getting to know the HSZG with the Görlitz and Zittau campuses, the canteen, the library and local student life.

  • IT summer party for pupils in grades 10 to 12

The Department of Computer Science at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will host its annual IT summer party for students on June 12, 2025.

What is it for? We want to meet on site and do computer science together. For this purpose, a main topic of computer science will be presented as part of a course. Afterwards, small projects will be realized by you. Our summer party is to be understood as a playful competition, which is also about fun and teamwork. After refreshments (pizza has proven its worth...), the most interesting projects are voted on together and the winners of the respective cups are determined.

For example, after a topic-related introduction to programming, you can become active in one of three possible specializations:

    • mobile robot - Robo-Cup,
    • Application for the Internet of Things - IoT Cup
    • your own small game - Game Cup

No previous knowledge is expected of you - curiosity and interest are enough. We will teach you everything you need to know to take part. Your added value is that you will meet like-minded people, work in a team right from the start and meet very good computer scientists with us!

Get in touch with us! Let us know how interested you are, ask us any questions you may have or get in touch by email at any time: IT-Sommerfest@hszg.de
We will be happy to clarify any questions you may have about school deregistration on this day...

    Save the Date!

Event period: 12.06.25 from 9 am to 4 pm
Location: Campus Görlitz, Department of Computer Science

The specific topic/program for 2025 is still being prepared and will be published in advance at f-ei.hszg.de/it-sommerfest

  • Competitions and Olympics

    International Neisse-Elektro:

The electrical engineering Olympiad "Neisse-Elektro" is held annually in spring (usually in March) in Zittau. Around 30 pupils from German, Polish and Czech schools in the Euroregion take part each year. The young talents are nominated for this international Olympiad by the physics teachers of the participating schools. There will be workshops and excursions focusing on electrical engineering and finally the final Olympiad at the Zittau campus. Visit the Neisse-Elektro website.

    IT Young Talent Award:

The IT Young Talent Award is presented to teams of pupils who have developed creative IT projects to overcome small and large challenges in everyday life as well as in school or working life. The prize was created by InterNexumGmbH, is under the patronage of the Saxon Minister President Michael Kretschmer and is supported by many partners from the business world. Pupils of at least 14 years of age from general education schools are eligible to take part. The winners will receive laptops and IT gadgets and can present their ideas at the IT Summer Festival.
