The University Language Center offers language courses in English, French, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Czech and German as a foreign language (for foreign students). The following prior knowledge is required:
The choice of language in the degree programs is often optional or regulated in the respective study regulations of the degree program. The scope and timing of foreign language training are also determined by your degree program or faculty.
In addition to the specifications of your faculty/degree program, the number of enrolments and teaching staff capacity also determine the creation of language groups.
Within the framework of the University Language Center's timetable and staffing possibilities, you also have the opportunity to take additional language courses on a voluntary basis, about which you will be informed by your language teacher or on notice boards.
In most degree programs, Module I (Receptive Language Activities) is compulsory. Within this module, you will take performance tests in reading comprehension and listening comprehension.
Within Module II (Productive Language Activities), which is compulsory in some degree programs, you will take performance tests in writing (= text production) and speaking (= presentation and conversation).
Some degree programs offer their students a degree in technical English, e.g. English for Engineers in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering or Business English in the business-oriented degree programs. You will also be informed about the requirements in the Business English and English for Engineers courses in the orientation session at the beginning of your studies or your first course.
If you have any questions, our staff members will be happy to help.
