Are you cosmopolitan, open-minded, have an excellent command of English and want to expand your knowledge and skills beyond your own nose? Then the Baltic University Program might be just right for you!
The Baltic University Program, BUP for short, is a network of 225 universities and other research institutions in the Baltic Sea region. The network is organized and coordinated by the Centre for Sustainable Development at Uppsala University in Sweden.
The participating countries are Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Norway, Ukraine and Slovakia. All of these countries are characterized by their location on or proximity to the Baltic Sea.
Founded 25 years ago, the program supports a wide variety of courses, conferences, research projects and summer schools at Bachelor's and Master's level. The focus of interest is on topics of sustainability, democracy and environmental protection, with an emphasis on the Baltic Sea region.
A highlight of the international network cooperation is the annual sailing trip. Known as the SAIL course (Sustainability Applied in International Learning), motivated, committed and interested students spend around a week on the Fryderyk Chopin sailing boat discussing a wide range of sustainability topics, such as the environment, energy, climate, technology, economics, social sciences, education and much more. The exchange of knowledge between the students on board is accompanied by eight internationally experienced and professional instructors, so that a high quality of learning can be guaranteed.
