In the electrical engineering preliminary course, basic concepts of electrical engineering are developed, the first fundamental relationships of electrical circuits are introduced and calculated using simple examples. It aims to build on previous knowledge of mathematics and physics and build a bridge to the forthcoming degree course. The preliminary course consists of lectures with exercises and a final laboratory practical.
Contents of the preliminary course: Basic concepts of electrical engineering (electrical charge, current, voltage, resistance, power), basics of electrical circuits (resistor circuits in parallel and series connection).

This preliminary course is aimed at beginners in programming. The first section provides an introduction to how you can create simple websites using HTML and CSS technologies. The second section focuses on JavaScript. After a brief introduction to programming, you will learn how to program simple interactions for websites and web apps using JavaScript.

The preliminary course teaches techniques that you will need (not only) in physics to experiment and analyze scientific and technical processes. The preliminary course is designed to be practical and is by no means just a repetition of physical school knowledge.

This preliminary course serves as a refresher in the basics of chemistry. It offers opportunities to review chemical arithmetic, basic principles of atomic and bonding theories, as well as setting up general reaction equations. The preliminary course consists of lectures with exercises.
Contents of the preliminary course: Atomic models, types of bonding, structure of the periodic table of elements, setting up chemical reaction equations, stoichiometric calculations, basics of acid-base theory and pH value calculations, introduction to the course of chemical reactions from a kinetic and thermodynamic perspective

Participation in the preliminary courses is free of charge.
If you are eligible for BAföG, you can receive BAföG for the month of September if you attend at least one of our preliminary courses in person (all dates!). Important: The application must be submitted to the responsible authorityat by 30.09. at the latest.
Proof of participation is provided by means of a participation list, which is sent centrally by the HSZG to the BaföG office.
Participation in the leisure activities does not entitle you to early receipt of BAföG.

Would you like to get to know our great climbing hall in Zittau? We'd like to invite you to try toprope climbing at the Westparkcenter. It doesn't matter how athletic you are or whether you have any previous experience. The climbing routes in the hall are divided into different levels of difficulty so that everyone can have fun. Our course leader Henry and students who already have previous experience will support you during your first climbing course. By the way: regular university sports courses also take place here during the semester.

Like every town, Zittau has its secrets. Did you know that a large part of the town has a cellar and that there is a large and a small Lenten cloth? On the city tour, you will find out how beautiful Zittau's old town is.
And afterwards: come with us to nearby Olbersdorfer See, one of the most beautiful places to spend the day after university. Our picnic at the "O-See" is perfect for making new friends. Make yourself comfortable on the beach, chat with your future fellow students, play a game of beach volleyball, frisbee or cards. Of course, you are also welcome to bring your own ball or cards.

For the pub crawl, you will wander through the pubs in Zittau in small groups (fellow students and students from higher semesters). You'll have about an hour in each pub to have a relaxed drink and get to know the others (over a round of darts).
This year, the tour starts for everyone at Emil am Mandauer Berg 13, where you and the others can get drinks for a small price and a delicious dinner for a donation, so you don't get blurry vision after the second pub ;) The tour ends at your student club DeZi-Bar, where you can round off the evening with the others. Thirsty? And of course: 0.0 per mille is also possible!

We invite you to a cozy mocktail and screen printing evening at Café X (our Zittau youth café). There will be various creative, non-alcoholic cocktails and a dinner together (with dessert, of course). You can come along and just chat, print T-shirts with us or chill out in the Amaliengarten if the weather is good.
Mocktails and dinner are available on a donation basis. 1 T-shirt costs approx. 5€, the print is free.

Experience an exciting hike full of ups and downs.
Together we will explore a small part of the Zittau Mountains. Hopefully with the best weather, you can enjoy wonderful views along our 8 km hiking route. The route is suitable for all fitness levels and we will be happy to adjust our pace to suit you.
At 9 a.m. we will set off from Zittau on the steam-powered narrow-gauge railroad into the mountains, where we will start our hike at the Teufelsmühle stop. Please register for this so that everyone can be accommodated in our reserved narrow-gauge railroad carriage.

Get to know each other at Berzdorfer See! We will meet at the lake near Görlitz from 16:45 to swim together, play volleyball and enjoy the sun. Drinks are available, but please bring your own food and drinks as well as swimming gear.
We will travel together by train from both Görlitz and Zittau to Hagenwerder. The two trains meet there, we get off and walk about 15 minutes to the beach.

To round off our come-in week, we're heading up the Landeskrone! Together we will hike up Görlitz's local mountain - don't worry, it will be more of a leisurely walk to the 420 m summit. Once at the top, you can enjoy the panoramic view over the city and the surrounding area and even see the Schneekoppe on a clear day.
Remember to bring sturdy shoes, enough to drink and suitable clothing.

Get creative! From 15:00 to 18:30, you can create your own design in lino printing and design your own buttons in our creative workshop on the Görlitz campus, in room U13 in the GI building. You are also welcome to bring along items of clothing or bags for printing. Let your imagination run wild!
