On this page you will find all the information you need about a stay abroad with Erasmus+.
Students can be funded several times in each study cycle (Bachelor's, Master's, doctorate). The minimum duration for study visits is three months. The maximum funding period per cycle is twelve months. Single-course degree programs (diploma) can be funded for 24 months. Internships are also supported by Erasmus+.

Erasmus+ aims to promote equal opportunities and inclusion. For this reason, access to the program is made easier for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds (this applies in the Erasmus+ program for single parents during their studies abroad and for people with special needs).
Students who take their child/children with them on an Erasmus+ study visit to a program country and are single parents during their Erasmus+ mobility can receive special funding as a lump sum. At present, the monthly allowance is EUR 200, regardless of the number of children traveling with you. Please contact the International Office if you would like to apply for the grant.

Disabled persons with a degree of disability of at least 30 or 50 who are funded for a study abroad via Erasmus+ can apply for additional funding via the HSZG. Depending on the degree of disability, this is either a monthly grant of EUR 200 or special funding of a maximum of EUR 10,000 per mobility. Please contact the International Office if you would like to apply for the grant.
The application takes place in two stages. You first apply to the HSZG and only after a successful selection process at the partner university.
In your application, you can specify up to three priorities for your desired stay.

The following criteria apply to the selection of students for funding within the Erasmus+ program
The coursework completed abroad will be credited towards the coursework or study periods required to obtain the degree at the home university using the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The prerequisite for this is that a Learning Agreement has been signed by all three parties (student, home university and host university) prior to the stay. This diagram illustrates how the recognition process works in detail.
After completing the semester at the host university, you will receive a Transcript of Records. You then submit this to the HSZG examination office in order to have your academic achievements from the semester abroad recognized.

The program countries are divided into three country groups. You can find the current funding rates for your chosen country here.
The funding period depends on the funds approved and the number of applications and is announced around June of the year.
It is possible, but not guaranteed, to receive financial support for a maximum of 150 days (an Erasmus month lasts 30 days and the grant is calculated on a daily basis). Your stay must not last less than 90 days.

The funding amount will be determined in the Grant Agreement before the stay.
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has numerous bilateral agreements with partner universities throughout Europe as part of the Erasmus+ program. You can find more detailed information on the partner universities in our mobility database.
Students who are entitled to BAföG can apply for BAföG for their Erasmus+ study abroad. The Erasmus+ mobility grant remains free of charge up to a monthly funding amount of 300 euros.
Please note that the application for BAföG abroad must be submitted to the regional BAföG office at least 6 months in advance.
You can obtain confirmation of the amount of your Erasmus grant for your application from the International Office.
The Learning Agreement is a key document that plays an important role before, during and after your stay abroad. It contains information on the courses to be attended abroad and which courses these correspond to at the home university.
Furthermore, a complete agreement signed by all three parties (the student, the home university and the partner university) before the stay abroad is a prerequisite for the payment of Erasmus+ funding.
If there are any changes to the originally agreed study program at the start of the study abroad, these must be signed by all parties involved within one month of arrival in the host country.

The grant agreement is a contractual document that is concluded between the student and the home university. It contains, among other things, all important information on the funding period, the funding amount, reporting obligations as well as the rights and obligations of the student and the university concerning the semester abroad.
It is concluded once a fully signed Learning Agreement has been submitted. The original Grant Agreement must be submitted to the university.
All sponsorship recipients are obliged to submit an EU Survey via the Mobility Tool Plus at the end of their stay.
The HSZG also requires a detailed experience report. You will receive information and a form for this during your stay.
An important goal of the Erasmus+ program is to increase the language skills of its participants. The focus of the language training during the stay abroad is the respective language of instruction. This may differ from the national language.
Before and after your stay at the partner university, you will take a compulsory language test. This serves to determine your language level before and after your stay. These language tests are made available online. Both language tests only serve to determine language skills and have no influence on the approval of funding or the recognition of academic achievements! The tests are available in the following languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovakian, Spanish and Swedish.
To improve foreign language skills, online language courses can be offered in all test languages after this test. An exception is mobility with certain partner countries such as Russia (KA107): Here, online language support is currently not available.
By signing the Grant Agreement, you undertake to prepare a detailed report on your stay with Erasmus+. You will receive a form during your stay, which you should use for this purpose.
This report will serve as a qualitative evaluation of your semester abroad and will also be used to improve the advice provided by the International Office. If you agree, the report will also be made available to future students who are interested in the partner institution.
The Erasmus+ mobility grant does not include any insurance cover.
Please enquire with your health insurance provider about insurance cover during your study abroad period and about the need for additional private insurance. In the Grant Agreement for the Erasmus+ mobility grant, you undertake to take out sufficient individual international health, international accident and international liability insurance for the duration of your stay abroad.
You can also insure yourself through theDAAD's group insurance, which offers comprehensive insurance cover.
Please note the following: The International Office of the HSZG must be notified informally of an extension four weeks before the end of the originally planned period of stay - preferably by e-mail.
Coordinate with your faculty coordinator and draw up a new Learning Agreement. As usual, this must be signed by all three parties. A new Grant Agreement will then be drawn up.
It is important to know that the extension of the study visit does not automatically mean an extension of the grant payment. It must first be checked whether continued funding is possible. If your extension depends on this, please enquire at the International Office.
The extension must immediately follow the current stay; there must be no interruption (with the exception of public holidays and university vacations).
An extension of the period of stay is counted towards your twelve-month Erasmus+ quota (study and internship) per study cycle.
If you are unable to start your stay abroad, please inform us immediately so that we can deregister you at your host university and reallocate your exchange place if necessary.
