Information for international prospective students

You can only apply for a study place online via the university's application portal.

After applying online, you must print out the application for admission/enrollment , sign it and send it together with the necessary documents to the university address (postal address: Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz, Dezernat Studium und Internationales, Theodor-Körner-Allee 16, 02763 Zittau).

Please note that according to the enrolment regulations at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences dated 22.10.2018, § 6, number (6), in the current version, for the admission of foreign applicants, admission can only be granted if all individual requirements of your previous education, starting with the secondary school leaving certificate, have been passed. 

Foreign applicants must, among other things, submit a relevant language certificate if they have direct access to higher education - see below under b) or the certificate of the assessment test if they have indirect access to higher education.

  • The following documents must be enclosed with the application:

    1. control sheet for the application   

    2. Curriculum vitae in tabular form with no gaps and a current passport photo

    3. original certified copy of:    

    • the university entrance qualification (e.g. Baccalaureate, Matura, Lise diplomasi, Attestat etc.)              
    • If available, proof of completed periods of study              
    • If available, degree certificate for studies already completed          
    • if available, university entrance examination
    • as well as a certified translation of these certificates in German    

    4. APS certificate (only for applicants from China, India and Vietnam)     

    5. original certified copy  

    a) of the assessment test (including overview of grades)

    or

    b) of a degree from the following group    

    •  German language test for university admission for foreign applicants - DSH*    
    • Test of German as a foreign language - TestDaF*    
    • C1 or C2 certificate from the Goethe-Institut    
    • Large or Small Language Diploma of the Goethe-Institut    
    • German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - Second Level    
    • telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule 

     

    * for all technical and engineering degree courses at least DSH-1 or TestDaF level 3 (in all four partial examinations)

    * for all business and social science degree programs at least DSH-2 or TestDaF level 4 (in all four partial examinations)

    If you cannot provide proof of the certificate required under a) or b), you have the option of obtaining the certificate of the assessment test or the DSH certificate at our Studienkolleg. This requires participation in the respective preparatory course. The standard period of study for the DSH course is one semester. The standard period of study for the specialization course to obtain the assessment test is two semesters.

    You apply for admission to the Studienkolleg or the DSH course at the same time as you apply for a study place. The Studienkolleg does not offer beginner courses for the German language. Therefore, proof of prior knowledge of the German language must be submitted with the application as follows:

    EU citizens submit a B1 certificate or proof of 400 hours of previous German language training.

    Non-EU citizens are required to submit a B1 certificate from the Goethe Institute or a B1 ÖSD certificate. B1 certificates from other language schools can only be accepted if they were obtained in Germany. All four parts of the examination (reading, listening, speaking, writing) must be proven at the time of application. Incomplete certificates will not be considered.

    For admission to our Studienkolleg, you must take a placement test in Zittau. 

    Your application will only be processed once we have received all the required documents. 

  • Please note the following application periods:

    I. for direct study

    for the winter semester   mid-May - 15.07.
    for the summer semester 15.12. - 15.01.

    For degree programs without a selection procedure also beyond this date (if necessary until the assessment threshold is reached) by 15.09. at the latest for the winter semester and by 28.02. at the latest for the summer semester.

    II. with prior attendance of a DSH course or a specialization course for the assessment test at the Studienkolleg Zittau

    for the winter semester    01.03. - 30.04.
    for the summer semester 01.09. - 31.10. 

    The complete application documents must be received by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences by 15.05. (for Polish applicants by the 29th calendar week) of the year for the winter semester and by 15.11. of the previous year for the summer semester.

  • Further information

    There are notuition fees . Neither at the Studienkolleg nor for specialized studies. The cost of living is between 500.00 and 600.00 euros/month (rent, health insurance, food ...)

    Semester times

    The winter semester begins on 01.09. and ends on 28.02. of the following year. The summer semester begins on 01.03. and ends on 31.08. of the same year.

    Placement test date at the Studienkolleg

    You will be informed of this in the invitation documents with your pre-admission.

    Preparation for the placement test

    To prepare for the placement test, we recommend the following books:

    Visa

    Allow sufficient time to apply for a visa for study purposes. It may take several weeks to process your visa documents.
