FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Application

  • How high is the Numerus Clausus? (NC)

The respective NC values are recalculated in each year's allocation procedure. We are therefore unable to provide you with any binding information in advance. However, you can take a look at the NC values from the previous year to get a feel for them.

You can find them at on our website.

  • What is the replenishment limit?

According to current legislation, the restriction on the number of study places also continues in the higher semesters. The so-called "numerus clausus" therefore also applies to students changing courses, i.e. admission to a higher semester requires not only the approval of the examination board, but also that a free place is available.

  • Is my admission dependent on a pre-study internship?

Admission to the degree programs of the HSZG is currently not dependent on proof of a pre-study internship.

  • Why do I have to provide proof of health insurance with my application?

Proof of health insurance is a prerequisite for enrollment. This proof is provided in the form of a certificate from the respective health insurance company stating that you are insured or exempt from compulsory health insurance.

BAföG recipients who are subject to compulsory health insurance receive a supplement that is roughly equivalent to the student health insurance contribution. Upon admission, applicants receive detailed information about their compulsory health insurance. The non-contributory family insurance ends on the day of exmatriculation.

  • Do I have to pay tuition fees or a semester contribution?

With the exception of second degree students, direct study at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is free of charge. Only the legally required fees are payable for each semester. At present, the guest auditor fees amount to 38.35 euros per semester, the fees for a second degree course 300.00 euros per semester. All students must pay a semester contribution (for the student union and the student body) each semester on the basis of the relevant legal provisions. From summer semester 2024, this fee will be EUR 252.80 per semester (incl. semester ticket), plus a one-off fee of EUR 10.00 for the student ID card. Proof of payment of the fee is a mandatory requirement for enrollment.

  • The login to the online portal has failed. What can I do?

Please send the error message by e-mail to VIT(at)hszg.de!

  • I don't have my school-leaving certificate yet - can I still apply?

Please enter the details of your higher education entrance qualification (HZB) here.
If you have not yet received your HZB, please enter "4.0" as a placeholder for the average grade and the expected date of the certificate for the date of acquisition. Please send us your HZB as soon as you receive it.

For NC degree programs, the final grade must be reported to the Admissions Office by 31 July. The HZB must then be submitted for final enrollment at the latest.

  • Can I submit any missing documents with my application?

You can still do this while observing deadlines!
For degree programs with admission restrictions, we must receive your documents by 20.07.2022 at the latest (postmark!). If you have applied for an open degree program, you even have until 05.10.2022 (postmark!).

  • Do I have to apply to the HSZG to collect waiting semesters?

A waiting semester is the time that elapses between obtaining your university entrance qualification and the start of your studies. A waiting semester lasts six months. For example, if you have traveled or worked for a year after graduating from high school, you will be credited with two waiting semesters.

The following periods are also counted as waiting semesters

    • Completed an apprenticeship or internship.
    • Have worked.
    • Traveled (Work &Travel, Aus Pair, internship abroad,...).
    • Have done voluntary work (social, ecological, sporting).
    • You have already applied for a course of study but have not enrolled.

    Times during which you

    • Were already enrolled for a degree course.

Waiting semesters enable prospective students who have not achieved the required NC to take up their desired course of study at a later date.

  • How do I get back the documents that I submitted with my application/enrollment?

If you are enrolled at our university, the documents will remain with us and will be added to your files.
If you would like us to send your documents back to you if you are not enrolled, please enclose a stamped envelope with your application documents.

  • Is there a succession procedure for NC degree programs?

That is possible! If you did not get your place in the first round, you will first receive a rejection letter from us. This will also inform you of your place on the list for the succession procedure.

  • If I apply for two degree programs, do I have to submit my documents twice?

You don't have to. In our application portal, you can directly enter two degree programs for which you would like to apply. There are then two barcodes on the application generated at the end of the application process, which you must sign and send to us. These represent the two degree programs for which you are applying.

  • Does the HSCG recognize the dgti supplementary certificate?

The HSZG wants to be a place where people of all gender identities can study well. For this reason, the HSZG is one of the universities that will change or correct the first name and gender entry in the university's digital registration systems upon application and on the basis of the dgti supplementary ID card.
The dgti supplementary ID card is issued by the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality and is only valid in conjunction with an identity card or passport. People can have their self-chosen first name and gender identity entered on the dgti supplementary ID card. You can register in our applicant portal with the data from the dtgi supplementary ID card. Please then contact our staff from the Department of Studies and International Affairs

Bachelor's degree programs at German universities usually have a standard duration of 6 - 7 semesters. Bachelor's degrees with 8 semesters are also permitted. Master's degree courses require a first university degree and usually last between 2 and 4 semesters. • How do I receive educational support?

Under certain conditions, students receive educational support in accordance with the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). Information on this can be obtained from all offices for educational support.

For students of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the Office for Educational Support of the Studentenwerk Dresden is responsible

The training grant must be applied for in a specific form and is paid at the earliest from the beginning of the month in which the application is submitted or the training is commenced. • University or college - what's the difference?

Universities of applied sciences are generally smaller. This makes studying more individual, more personal and therefore often quicker. That it is "easier" is a fallacy. But perhaps one could speak of "more practice-oriented". At the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, an internship semester is integrated into almost all degree courses . Modern universities of applied sciences hardly differ from universities in terms of international contacts either. You can now study almost anything at a university of applied sciences. However, some areas such as medicine, pharmacy, law and teaching are still only offered by universities.
