Numerus clausus

Numerus clausus (from Latin numerus = "number" and clausus = "closed") refers to a limited number of study places in certain subjects at universities in Germany and is used synonymously with "admission restrictions" for access to a course of study at a university.

A selection procedure takes place for degree courses with restricted admission (NC degree courses). The selection modalities are regulated by the selection regulations. There is no lottery procedure at the HSZG.

Study places are allocated in the selection procedure according to the criteria "average grade" of the university entrance qualification and "waiting time".

There are two quotas for allocation according to average grade , the so-called "aptitude quota" (60% of study places are allocated according to the university's own selection) and the so-called "best quota"(20% of the available study places are allocated to the applicants with the best average grades). As part of the aptitude quota, a further selection criterion is used in addition to the average grade, e.g. relevant internships or an existing relevant professional qualification, i.e. weighted, so-called "improved" grade averages are also taken into account in the aptitude quota. Anyone who has completed a relevant internship, a social year or a relevant vocational qualification receives a bonus (0.3 for internship, 0.5 for vocational qualification). In this case, the grade point average of the university entrance qualification reduced by the respective bonus is included in the selection procedure. In this case, you can still get a place at university even with a significantly "worse" average grade. And this applies to 60% of the study places to be allocated within an NC degree course. The whole procedure is described in detail in the selection regulations!
