Exmatriculation

Exmatriculation ends your studies
  • at the student's request - procedure for exmatriculation in the event of premature exmatriculation
  • after successful completion of studies - Exmatriculation procedure for graduates
  • after finally failing an examination
  • in the event of failure to re-register
  • at the end of the period of study (standard period of study + maximum extension permitted by the Saxon Higher Education Act)
  • failure to fulfill other enrollment obligations (health insurance membership, etc.)

Please note:

You can deregister in person or by post. In the latter case, please send the signed certificate of discharge required for deregistration, if applicable under point 3) Mensa, to the Admissions Office by post (or by dropping it in your letterbox) together with your student ID. Once all signatures have been obtained, we will send you the relevant certificates by post after final processing. Please provide us with a current address on the discharge certificate! Any credit on your student ID card will be certified and can then be requested by you from the Studentenwerk.

Procedure for exmatriculation

A premature de-registration can

  • at the request of the student or
  • ex officio.

For exmatriculation at your own request, an informal application stating the reason and the desired date of exmatriculation is required. You can submit this using the Application for de-registration form or online via E-Campus (under the menu item: "My studies - Applications"). The reason can be brief (e.g. change of university, taking up employment, personal, professional, financial, health reasons, etc.) and does not need to be explained in detail.
Exmatriculation ex officio occurs when the university pronounces exmatriculation (e.g. loss of examination entitlement, lack of re-registration, lack of health insurance, etc.).
In both cases, the student must deregister from the university using the certificate of discharge. The individual offices listed can be visited in any order. The last office is always the Admissions Office. There, after submitting

  • the application for de-registration,
  • the completed discharge certificate and
  • the chip card

the certificates of departure (certificate of exmatriculation and certificate for pension insurance) are issued or made available for printing in the E-Campus (under the menu item: Student Services; tab: Notifications/Certificates).

On request, the Examinations Office will issue an official certificate of achievement for the grades obtained at the university.

When the new chip card is issued in winter semester 2013/14, the Studentenwerk Dresden will only be able to top up the chip card's wallet and pay out any remaining credit. Please contact the cashiers in the canteen regarding the payment of remaining credit.

Students studying in Görlitz can hand in their deregistration documents in Görlitz to Ms. Isendahl (Office of the Department of Computer Science).

Please also note that your access to the internal and external university network services (login, e-mail, home directory, OPAL) will expire upon de-registration and your saved data will be deleted.

De-registration after completion of studies

  • The date of de-registration is the day of the defense
  • According to the currently valid matriculation regulations, it is also possible to de-register at a later date after the defense.
  • Please print out the certificate of discharge before your defense date together with the certificate of completion of studies from E-Campus (under the menu item: Student Services; tab: Notifications/Certificates).

The successful completion of the last examination (usually the defense of the Bachelor's, Diploma or Master's thesis) is confirmed in writing on the degree certificate. Only with this proof can the Admissions Office process your de-registration immediately after the defense date and issue you with the leaving certificates (certificate of de-registration, certificate for pension insurance).

Graduates also have the option of obtaining the necessary signatures on the certificate of discharge before the defense and submitting it by post in the case of an online defense.

Exmatriculation after submission of the thesis but before the defense is not possible according to the matriculation regulations. If exmatriculation is to take place at a later date after the defense (e.g. end of the current semester), a written application for exmatriculation must be submitted by the day of the defense at the latest. This can be submitted using the form Application for de-registration or online via E-Campus. Please note the consequences that such an application may have. For this reason, you should consider carefully whether to submit such an application (see form "Application for de-registration").

If the de-registration date is the day of the defense, you do not need to submit a separate application for de-registration.

Please also note that your access to the internal and external university network services (login, e-mail, home directory, OPAL) will expire upon de-registration and your saved data will be deleted.
