Promoting the acquisition of skills through business games

According to the Swiss Austrian German Simulation and Gaming Association (SAGSAGA), simulation games offer practical learning experiences with realistic complexity as well as scope for decision-making and action to actively promote the acquisition of skills.

This enables them to work on real problems and create practical, authentic situations. In the first part of the short online workshop, you will receive an overview of how simulation games can be integrated into your own teaching in a didactically meaningful way in order to promote the acquisition of skills, create a motivating learning environment, support the acquisition of knowledge, enable reflection and transfer and promote self-organized learning. Building on this, the second part presents current good practices of simulation games in university teaching.

 

Learning objectives

After completing the short online workshop , participants will be able to

  • Present the opportunities and challenges of using simulation games

  • and name good practices on the topic of simulation games in university teaching.

Course leader: Daniel Winkler

Daniel Winkler is a lecturer in university didactics at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. His work focuses on the fundamentals of university didactics, engineering pedagogy, laboratory didactics and the use of simulation games and educational technology in university teaching. He studied at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (Bachelor of Engineering) and at the International University Institute Zittau of the Dresden University of Technology (Master of Arts). In his doctoral project at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Technical University of Dresden, he is working intensively on the design of teaching/learning scenarios for the use of augmented reality. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Ingenieurpädagogische Wissenschaftsgesellschaft and the Ingenieure ohne Grenzen association.
