Spatial imagination enables us to understand the world around us and to orient ourselves safely within it. We are able to recognize buildings and objects from different perspectives and can mentally trace their real forms using abstract drawings. Conversely, an existing building can be depicted just as precisely and constructively in graphic form. It is therefore not only a skill for understanding complex structures, but also a craft that is essential for training as an engineer. With the right teaching, continuous practice and hard work, this ability to visualize can be developed for a lifetime. The exhibition "The Art of Technical Drawing" shows the results of this training in engineering education in an impressive way.
The exhibition is dedicated to the fascinating variety and the high degree of care that goes into the execution of technical hand drawings. On display are predominantly original drawings from a period of almost 100 years - from 1909 to 2001 to be precise - by Willy Kluge, Karl Wendler, D. Engelhardt and B. Pfitzmann. The authors take a back seat to the documentation of their achievements and the teaching of past times.
The exhibition can be viewed daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of mid-January in the Faculty of Economics and Industrial Engineering (Building Z II) / Foyer 1st floor at Schliebenstraße 21 in Zittau.
