KIA direct: Combining study and practice

What is KIA?

In the KIAdirekt variant (cooperative studies with accompanying practical work in a company), the bachelor's degree program KIA Informatik is very well suited for future students who want to closely combine theory and practice already during their studies. At the same time, the practical part of the training helps to finance your studies and makes you a sought-after practically versed specialist from day one of your professional career.

The choice is yours!

You can study Business and Computer Science as a Bachelor's degree in Business and Computer Science  or you can opt for a practice-integrated part of your studies in the KIAdirekt concept.

Six steps to your KIA direct contract:

Step 1: Application to the company

Interested students with a university entrance qualification should ideally apply to one of the cooperating companies one year before the start of their studies. Details on the cooperation partners can be found here.

Step 2: Conclusion of contract

The company and the university conclude a cooperation agreement. The applicants and the company also agree a practical contract, such as a study sponsorship contract.

Step 3: Enrollment for studies

Enrollment at the university takes place with the university entrance qualification from May each year via our application portal.

Step 4: Start of studies

The course starts on September 1 with a four-week introductory block at the company, followed by alternating semesters of study at the university and practical periods at the company during the semester break.

Step 5: Flexible practical phases

In addition to the regular practical phases, students can work up to 20 hours a week in the company and take up to two semesters off.

Step 6: Graduation

The course is completed with a Bachelor's degree. During the practical training phases, students are entitled to collectively agreed leave and a monthly salary.

  • Contents

The Bachelor's degree program Business and Computer Science provides the theoretical foundation of your subject and continuously links this content with the practical applications of computer science that build on it. This includes in particular the two focus areas "Programming and Software Engineering" (Bachelor of Computer Science) and "Processes and Management" (Business and Computer Science). You will gradually acquire all the necessary knowledge as well as analytical and engineering skills in your subject. You will use a range of technical and organizational tools that will enable you to work in a creative, precise and team-oriented manner, as is common in the modern IT world and expected in everyday working life.

After successfully completing the Bachelor's degree, graduates can choose our 4-semester consecutive, i.e. coordinated, Master's degree program.

  • Study program

The Bachelor's degree course in Business and Computer Science comprises a total of 6 semesters (standard period of study). The final semester includes a practical project (approx. 3 months) and the Bachelor's thesis (approx. 2 months). There are also various specializations, which in turn include compulsory and optional compulsory study content. This gives you a choice of options that take your individual needs into account wherever possible.

The modern study structure (Bachelor's/Master's) encourages the desire to study selected study sections at another university, particularly abroad. The extremely positive effect of studying abroad on personal development is undisputed. The attendance of external study modules, which are credited to the study program wherever possible, is not limited to the institutions in the USA, Lithuania, Denmark and Austria, with which we have been cooperating for many years. The university has a long list of proven contacts abroad.

  • Business and Computer Science degree program with intensified practical phases (KIAdirekt)
