"WEG[GE]RECHT." a city map of Görlitz's old town for people with reduced mobility.
The student project group "WEG[GE]RECHT." developed a map of the sidewalks in Görlitz's old town. It is primarily intended to provide orientation for people with limited mobility. The map was created as part of a project at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the curative education/inclusion studies course with Prof. Dr. phil. Petra Fuchs as project supervisor and is now available in various stores, accommodations and cafés.
On the Day of Action for Equality for People with Disabilities on May 5, 2017, the student group "Altstadt für alle" launched the "Herein gerollt" project. This involved the use of mobile ramps that can provide practical and affordable access to many buildings in Görlitz's old town. The idea and the implementation of the city map are now a link with the same concern. The map shows the stores that now have ramps, as well as disabled-friendly toilets, benches, disabled parking spaces and major inclines. The three students plan to use the map to apply for the Saxon Inclusion Award in the next few days.
The district of Görlitz, which financially supports the "WEG[GE]RECHT." project, welcomes the students' project and sees the Görlitz city map as a prelude to further city maps, for example maps for Weißwasser or Zittau. Matthias Reuter hopes that the project will be continued and would also like to see close cooperation with those responsible at all levels, as every project that breaks down barriers in public spaces is a small step towards inclusion. The district of Görlitz sees it as its task to raise public awareness for the removal of barriers on the streets and in people's minds.
