Online educational trip 2021 "Recognize vulnerability - allow relationship. For a curative education in resonance!" of the Berufs- und Fachverband Heilpädagogik e.V. will take place from 15 - 26.11.2021.
The lecture Loneliness and friendship under the conditions of intellectual disability - Insights into key findings from research and selected practical examples by Prof. Dr. Ingolf Prosetzky will take place online on 24.11.2021 from 6 - 8 pm.
In recent years, the issue of loneliness and its individual and social consequences has become more of a focus of public attention in western industrialized nations. In 2018, the British government even appointed a Minister for Loneliness and an action plan against loneliness. The coronavirus-related hygiene protection measures imposed in residential and care homes and in other curative education settings since spring 2020 have made it abundantly clear how painful and stressful the loss of social relationships can be. Conversely, socio-medical, psychological and sociological research has extensively confirmed that friendships can contribute significantly to a higher quality of life, social status and a better state of health.
However, the current events in the wake of the corona pandemic should not obscure the fact that people with intellectual disabilities (and often their family environment) were already more affected by loneliness and have less sustainable social networks in general and friendships in particular.
The lecture will give you an insight into the central findings of loneliness and friendship research under conditions of intellectual disability, including the difference between being alone and loneliness and "normal" and chronic loneliness and the causes of the phenomenon. There will then be room for discussion with you, including what position you as a professional have on the topic, what ideas you can bring from your practice and which could still be developed.
