Karl-Bernert-Kolleg - Regional timber construction methods in Lusatia

Lecture series with excursion as part of the studium fundamentale

Begin 17. October 2019 - 16:15 Uhr
End 17. October 2019 - 17:45 Uhr

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear friends of the Umgebindehaus,

From October 17, 2019 to January 23, 2020  , the Karl-Bernert-Kolleg at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will focus on typical regional timber construction methods in Lusatia. The lecture series takes place as part of the fundamentals course at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Industrial Engineering. The college is celebrating its 20th edition in the 2019/20 fall semester. Since 2010, it has borne the name of the distinguished Umgebindehaus researcher Karl Bernert (1927-2009). The long-time monument conservator from Löbau worked closely with the university and was one of the founders of the lecture series together with Prof. Christian Schurig. The lectures take place on Thursdays from 4:15 pm to 5:45 pm in House Z II of the university (Schliebenstraße 21 in 02763 Zittau), Room K19. The Karl-Bernert-Kolleg will once again be presenting typical regional timber construction methods from Lusatia - Umgebindehäuser and Schrotholzhäuser - as living testimony to folk architecture. The diverse perspectives offered in lectures by members of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and renowned speakers from the region are interesting. Different aspects of the typical regional timber construction methods of Lusatia will be examined (construction, house research, monument preservation, building ecology, building physics, living in historic buildings, renovation...). An excursion on 14.11.2019 from 12:00 to 17:30 leads to remarkable locations of Umgebinde houses in Hirschfelde, Ober- and Niedercunnersdorf and Ebersbach. On the tour, Prof. Thomas Worbs will provide an expert explanation of the historic districts and objects. The lectures are open to the public and free of charge for participants. Interested parties are cordially invited. There are still a limited number of places available for the excursion, which can be used by external College participants (cost contribution: €20). I will gladly accept registrations.
