"Historical perspectives on firefighting in Upper Lusatia" - a lecture by Cornelia Müller

Begin 31. October 2024 - Ganztägig
End 01. November 2024 - Ganztägig

On November 1, 2024, the Franco-German Atelier on the topic of "City or Country" will take place as part of the "Weimar Rendez-vous with History". Doctoral students from Germany and France will present and discuss their research projects on urban history and urban-rural relations. In her lecture "Historical perspectives on firefighting in Upper Lusatia", Cornelia Müller will shed light on the complex relationships between the city and the surrounding countryside. She will focus on how towns set boundaries to the outside in the event of a fire and at the same time brought in external help. Another aspect of her lecture concerns the responsibility of towns for the surrounding villages in their jurisdiction. The workshop promotes academic exchange and mutual understanding of different methods and perspectives. The event thus contributes to Franco-German cooperation and research into historical urban-rural dynamics.
