Content and focus of this online lecture:
For a better understanding of organochemical reactions, we look at the detailed process - the so-called reaction mechanism - of this reaction. Reaction mechanisms provide an explanation as to why a reaction takes a certain course with the associated product formation. This knowledge allows chemists to influence the reaction according to their own ideas by selecting suitable reaction conditions - temperature, solvent, catalyst, etc. - in order to obtain the desired product. In this lecture, we will take a reaction mechanistic look at the most well-known reaction types in organic chemistry and use them to familiarize ourselves with the basic principles of reaction mechanisms.
