The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship at the Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies in the field of

Cultural Management and Cultural Policy
- reference number: MK-050 -

to be filled full-time.

The future holder of the position should independently represent the above-mentioned subject area in teaching and research. The professorship will have a fundamental role in the Culture and Management degree program as well as a cross-degree program connection within the faculty.

The following teaching and research areas are to be covered by the professorship:

  • Management of cultural organizations,
  • Cultural policy with a focus on cultural promotion and financing strategies,
  • cultural mediation and cultural economics with a focus on sustainable transformation processes and regional development.

The teaching commitment is to be implemented in lectures, seminars, exercises, internships and projects or in continuing education. Courses must also be taught in English. If necessary, courses in areas related to the area of appointment are to be offered. The range of courses offered must be secured throughout the university.

In addition to teaching duties, the candidate must independently carry out research and development tasks in the area of appointment, actively participate in the internationalization and further development of the subject area and take on tasks in academic self-administration. In addition, a close link between the cultural sector/cultural enterprises and study programs is expected, as well as involvement in applied research projects and in the area of knowledge transfer.

The post holder is expected to play an active role in shaping the development of the faculty. This includes, in particular, leading the content and conceptual development of the Culture and Management degree programs (Bachelor and Master).

Appointment requirements

The prerequisites for appointment are a completed university degree, proven pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, special aptitude for academic work, which is usually demonstrated by a doctorate or adequate academic achievements, as well as special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in a professional practice of usually five years, of which at least three years must have been spent outside the university sector.

Reference is made to the Saxon Higher Education Act of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. p. 329), which was last amended by Article 2 of the Act of January 31, 2024 (SächsGVBl. p. 83).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • Completed academic university degree in a subject area of the appointment field,
  • Proof of special aptitude for in-depth independent academic work (generally to be provided by an above-average and relevant doctorate),
  • demonstrable links between the professional career and the content and tasks of the professorship,
  • Ability to develop the professional identity of our students, to impart relevant specialist knowledge and to identify with the special phenomena of the subject (pedagogical-didactic aptitude), whereby appropriate teaching experience must be demonstrated,
  • Experience in applied research, knowledge transfer and networking,
  • Experience in the conception, establishment and accreditation of study programs, in the acquisition of third-party funding and strong digital skills in modern forms of teaching are advantageous.
