Study trip to the University of Edinburgh

The HSCG exchanges ideas with the University of Edinburgh about its sustainability management.

Packed with professional and intercultural experiences, the "Integrated Management Systems" / "Integrated Management" Master's students returned home from this year's study trip.

Sustainability is a module of the "Integrated Management Systems" / "Integrated Management" Master's degree courses. What specific projects are there on this topic and what experience have others gained in this area? We received answers to these questions during this year's study trip to the University of Edinburgh. We discussed sustainability management with the University of Edinburgh's Social Responsibility and Sustainability department. The university has a long tradition of sustainability management; it adopted its sustainability policy back in 2000 and currently has around 30 employees working on the diffusion of sustainability issues in teaching, research, operations and cooperation at the university, which aims to be climate-neutral by 2040.

The "European Students for Sustainability Auditing" project, in which students from various European countries carry out sustainability audits at the University of Edinburgh, has given us important impetus for our own internal auditing practices. The colleagues from the University of Edinburgh followed the presentation of our "Sustainable Campus Modular System" and our experiences with great interest.

Another highlight of the trip was our participation in the two-day "World Symposium on Social Responsibility and Sustainability", which was organized by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Around 60 representatives from all continents of the world reported on their efforts to implement sustainable development. Markus Will presented the research approach of our team with the title "An Inquiry to consider CSR in Integrated Management Systems" and was awarded the "best paper award".

Congratulations on this achievement! Study trips also serve to get to know the country and its people. We didn't miss out on this either and visited Edinburgh, Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and much more and returned home packed with professional and intercultural experiences...

Soon there will be another blog entry about the study trip to Edinburgh by student Johanna Kluge on the HSZG's Hin und Weg blog.

We would like to thank the PROMOS program and the Department "Studies and International Affairs" for supporting the trip.
