Establishment of the limited liability company future-proofs the facility
What began as an ambitious project is now being given binding structures: the Saxon Film Academy is being transformed into a GmbH structure based in Görlitz. The three shareholders - Verband Deutscher Produzenten e.V., Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and Europastadt Görlitz-Zgorzelec GmbH - are thus future-proofing the institution and giving film education in Central Germany a reliable perspective.
With the support of the Saxon producers Saxonia Media and Looks Film GmbH, the production alliance is involved for the first time in a regional structural project for more qualification and training. This increases the supply of specialists and workers in the Görlitz film region.
The Saxon Film Academy was launched in 2021 as a project of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. It was a response to the urgent need of the film industry to counter the shortage of skilled workers, particularly in the film industry, with new training and further education opportunities. After a successful start-up phase with the conception and implementation of three courses, the Saxon Film Academy now has an independent structure and thus the necessary scope for further development. The GmbH is based in the nationally and internationally renowned film location of Görlitz (Konsulplatz 1).
The partnership between the private sector, education and municipal structures that has now been created is exemplary. It harbors numerous potentials and creates important synergy effects. In August, the new management will introduce itself and name the concrete next steps in the further development of the Saxon Film Academy.
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences would like to expressly thank its companions, graduate designer and cameraman Bernd Hölsken and filmmaker Moritz Draheim, for their active support in establishing the Saxon Film Academy and shaping its content.
Many thanks to all the partners from education, business, society and politics who have helped to shape and support the project so intensively and benevolently so far.
