The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) is expanding its offer to young researchers and is advertising a doctoral position for the first time as of 01.03.2025. Subject to the provision of funds, a part-time position (24 hours/week; 0.6 FTE) is available in the field of STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) as a

to be filled for a limited period until 28.2.2028. Extension for a further year is possible upon application.

The focus of the position is on conducting scientific research with the aim of obtaining a doctorate during the funding period.

Formal requirements for an application

  • recommendation and supervision by a professor at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences
  • acceptance as a doctoral candidate at a faculty of a university entitled to award doctorates or at least a written letter of intent from the professor expected to supervise; the professorship at the HSZG must belong to one of the following faculties: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or Natural and Environmental Sciences[1].
  • Authorization to do a doctorate, usually proven by a scientific university degree.

Personal requirements

  • Scientific quality, originality/innovativeness and feasibility of the doctoral project,
  • Existence and quality of scientific work, fundamental and subject-specific research experience,
  • democratic socio-political or civic commitment (especially in the region) and
  • Importance of the doctoral project for the profile of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the relevant basic unit in the areas of research, transfer and third mission.
  • very good written and spoken German and English skills.

  1. Cover sheet (personal details, faculty or institute at which the doctorate is to be carried out at the HSZG, contact details, duration)
  2. Information on the supervisors (contact details, statements on the supervisory relationship and acceptance as a doctoral candidate)
  3. Description of the doctoral project (research objectives, research status, research design/methods, work plan and timetable)
  4. Own previous work/experience in the research field
  5. Embedding in research and transfer priorities of the HSZG (FSP) and the basic unit (faculty or institute)
  6. Information on democratic socio-political or civic engagement (last 5 years)
  7. Literature
  8. Attachments (if necessary, max. additional 20 pages)
