The accompanying exhibition 'Innovative teaching and learning settings' as part of the Day of Teaching showcases the latest trends and developments in the design of teaching and learning spaces.
This year's Teaching Day was something very special. From May 5 to 15, 2023, an inspiring exhibition on the topic of "Innovative teaching and learning settings" accompanied the event in the foyer of Building Z IV. The exhibition invited visitors not only to learn about the latest trends and developments in the design of teaching and learning spaces, but also to try them out for themselves.
Innovative teaching and learning spaces are characterized by flexibility, adaptability and multifunctionality. They offer learners various opportunities to develop their creativity, strengthen their social skills and deepen their knowledge. The space thus becomes an active partner and the so-called "third educator" in the learning process, alongside fellow students as the first educator and the actual teachers as the second educator.
The accompanying exhibition not only provided an inspiring environment to explore the latest trends in the design of teaching and learning spaces, but also included a series of public events. Every member of the university was welcome to use these spaces during this week for their own consultations or simply to take a break. Various university events took place in the exhibition:
Many visitors were enthusiastic about the exhibition, as it not only offered the opportunity to find out about the latest developments in this field, but also to try them out in practice.
Participants were able to actively experience various teaching and learning settings and thus gain new impulses for their own teaching practice.
The "Innovative Teaching and Learning Settings" exhibition was therefore not only an informative event, but also a platform for active exchange and inspiration for teachers, students and anyone interested in modern higher education.
In the next step of the "Campus 4 You" field of action in the "Future Learning Location Upper Lusatia (ZUKLOS)" project, the results of the surveys and personal interviews will be evaluated. In total, over 150 evaluations and comments were made about the exhibits. The flexibility and design in particular were positively emphasized. There is a great desire on the part of many participants to equip the open spaces and rooms of the HSZG with this furniture. In addition to much praise, there was also valuable advice on the teaching and learning furniture in later use. The need for good media availability as well as the maintenance and cleaning of the furniture was pointed out. In addition, care should be taken during the planning stage to ensure that the furniture is designed to be inclusive and has creative accessories such as whiteboards, blackboards and screens. Based on these findings, further planning will be carried out with the aim of designing selected open spaces and teaching rooms at the Zittau and Görlitz campuses in an innovative and future-proof way.
We would like to thank all participants for their comments and ideas, which have contributed to the co-design of the future campus.
