On the project day, a Christmas object was printed with the children and 3D printing was explained in a child-friendly way.
On 13.12.2018, students from the Faculty of Economics of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences held an event on 3D printing at the Erfinderkiste Oderwitz. The event took place as part of the "Business Software" module with Prof. Dr. Keil.
The task here was to plan an event in cooperation with regional providers in order to contribute to the fulfillment of the university's third mission, which is to be responsible for the Upper Lusatia region. The aim was to introduce interested children between the ages of 5 and 8 to the technology of 3D printing.
On the project day, a small Santa Claus was printed together with the children and used to explain the functionality and design options of a 3D printer in a child-friendly way.
In the afternoon, the topic of environmental protection in relation to plastic was highlighted with playful aspects. The subsequent quiz rounded off the program and encouraged the children to reflect. There was also a creative aspect. Printed out poinsettias and Christmas trees could be painted and decorated by the little inventors.
Pure Christmas anticipation!
The project was perceived as a complete success by everyone involved. The new teaching concept not only looked at theoretical aspects, but also provided practical experience in project management and new technologies. We believe that the new teaching methods will also be well received by students in the coming years.
A special thank you goes to the Erfinderkiste Oderwitz as a partner of the project with the provision of the small inventors and the premises made available.
We would also like to thank the sponsors for providing the children with refreshments in the form of lemonade from the Menschel company in Hainewalde and pancakes from the Rönsch bakery. We would also like to thank Prof. Dr. Keil, Mr. Fallgatter, Ms. Matthieu and Mr. Winkler for their support throughout the entire project.
