"Decentralized energy supply for buildings" - tenant electricity, electrical storage, geothermal energy.
This year's Zittau Energy Seminar was held together with our cooperation partner, Stadtwerke Görlitz AG (SWG), from 26 to 27 November 2018. The event was hosted by Prof. Dr. Schütte. The main topic was "Decentralized energy supply for buildings".
The first day of the event was characterized by presentations on topics such as tenant electricity, current developments in energy law and application scenarios for electrical energy storage systems.
A presentation by Mr. Gerber (Digital Energy Solution) dealt with the technical requirements for the building system and possible circuits when using electricity storage systems to increase the proportion of self-consumption. Mr. Wehmhörner (Thüga Smart Service GmbH) presented possible billing systems including a metering concept for tenant electricity business models. Ms. Hartung (OEWA Wasser und Abwasser GmbH) spoke about the legal particularities. Mr. Loeper (Solarwatt GmbH) and Mr. Makitta (FENECON GmbH) also outlined the wide range of possible applications for electrical storage systems and their control technology integration using intelligent software and sensor technology. The topic was rounded off by a contribution from Mr. Hempel (HS Zwickau) on implementation experience in districts. Mr. Hummel (Wärmeversorgungsgesellschaft Olbersdorf GmbH) provided information on the use of district heating in rural areas using the example of a planned network expansion in Olbersdorf.
Information stands from the companies Rehau, Use My Energy and NWFG Erdwärme (HSZG), IPM (HSZG) and the Zwickau University of Applied Sciences enabled the conference participants to engage in a lively professional exchange during the breaks between the lecture blocks.
Following the specialist presentations, an excursion to SWG's Energy Efficiency Quarter 1 (EEQ1) took place for those interested. The excursion participants were given a guided tour of the energy center with combined heat and power plant, pellet and gas boiler and emergency power generator.
The evening event in the Destille restaurant offered the conference participants the opportunity to round off the first day of the event with individual discussions in a relaxed atmosphere and good food.
The second day of the 28th Zittau Energy Seminar focused on the use of near-surface geothermal energy for heating and cooling buildings. Dr. Sabel (German Heat Pump Association) spoke on the status quo of geothermal heat pump technology, Prof. Dr. Koenigsdorff (Biberach University of Applied Sciences) on combined heating and cooling concepts using shallow geothermal energy and Dr. Schulte (TU Darmstadt) on underground heat storage using geothermal probes. Mr. Gerschel (HSZG), who also presented the influence of geological site factors on the design of shallow geothermal systems, took the opportunity to present current geothermal research at the HSZG as a representative of the junior research group on geothermal energy.
A highlight of this year's energy seminar was the presentation of the Dr. Tyczka Energy Prize to Mr. Kapff for his work on individual decision-making behaviour in CO2 certificate trading. This award, endowed with 5,000 euros, is presented by the Tyczka Energy Foundation in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG).
