Experience science on site again

On July 1, companies and researchers met for the first time at "Business meets Science 2021" at Celsiuz.

Zittau, Äußere Oybiner Straße. Who doesn't know them, the imposing red walls and their stories? They are the Mandau-Höfe - a former cotton mill - which is gradually being filled with new life, again and again and again. Cotton is no longer spun or textiles produced here. Today, ideas and projects for the immediate future are spun here, plans are forged, networks are established and maintained. The CELSIUZ, the Co-Creation Lab for Supply Infrastructure of the Saxony5 project at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences,
is the perfect place for this. Research associate Jens Maiwald presented the idea behind the space and after the reception, all guests were able to get an idea of the CELSIUZ, the possibilities of the space and many of the HSZG's research projects in staggered groups.

On a joint initiative of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences with the General Business Association Zittau und Umgebung e.V., the Dresden Chamber of Crafts and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce with the Görlitz and Zittau offices, science met entrepreneurship and society met research at "Business meets Science" on July 1.

A varied program

The more than 70 participants visited the Co-Creation Lab and were inspired by the various existing research projects.  Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Meinert introduced a practical example of the transfer between university and industry and presented the ANKIP project, which is being implemented together with Use My Energy GmbH Zittau. This involves the development of tools for designing waste heat utilization concepts that can be used by companies in the region on their own or with the support of engineering firms.

The program also included a presentation of the interim results of the alliance project "Lusatia - Life and Technology (L& T )" by Leonie Liemich, the project coordinator. Based on projects in the four fields of innovation: Networked Energy Systems through Storage Technologies, Additive Manufacturing for More Efficient Production, Non-formal Regional Education and Attractive Living and Working Environments, the alliance aims to strengthen the economic power in the border triangle region and successfully shape structural change in Lusatia. One of the projects -  called "Wirksam" - will also move into the Mandau-Höfe. These premises have also already been visited.

It was a lively evening of exchange, networking and suggestions in a pleasant atmosphere in the best weather. The on-site meeting of representatives from business, science and society as well as "getting into conversation" play an important role in the joint shaping of the region and its development.

The organizing team of the event - in particular Matthias Schwarzbach from the IHK and Mareike Schneider, Sinziana Schönfelder and Martin Kunack from Saxony5 - would like to thank all participants and contributors for the successful meeting and are already looking forward to the next "Business meets Science" in January 2022.
