Information and communication technology (ICT) systems are of central importance for our life and work. The Free State of Saxony is well positioned in ICT R&D. However, the energy consumption of radio chips in particular is still considerable. The operating time, security and user comfort of mobile devices, e.g. wireless sensors, are limited by the charging requirements of large batteries.

The EKI-Saxony network stands for ENERGY-EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES FROM SAXONY and aims to reduce the energy consumption of ICT systems to such an extent that they can be supplied with existing energy (light, temperature, movement, etc.) in an environmentally friendly manner via miniature harvesting modules & "free of charge" for the first time. EKISaxony thus makes essential contributions to the environment, society and the economy, among other things to massively reduce the consumption of and by ICT.
