The "Business meets science" event at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences highlights innovative approaches to sustainable regional development.
On January 9, 2025, the "Business meets Science" event took place at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The focus was on the topic of "Recyclates as a growth driver - potential for the Lusatian economy". Experts from business and science came together to discuss the opportunities of the circular economy for the region.
The event, moderated by Prof. Tobias Zschunke, focused on the potential of recycled materials from commercial waste and residual materials. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Niels Modler from TU Dresden opened up exciting perspectives on the future of the circular economy with his keynote speech on the CircEcon research factory. It became clear how companies can slow down cost increases through the use of recyclates and at the same time promote sustainable, local economic activity.
The presentations and the demonstrations and discussions that followed in the foyer that evening showed that the local circular economy offers enormous potential for the region: A strengthening of regional value creation, the development of innovative, sustainable products and the creation of competitive advantages by meeting strict environmental requirements.
The 126 guests from companies, trade and science had the opportunity to exchange ideas directly with CircEcon experts at themed tables. Opportunities for cooperation between research and companies were explored over a shared snack. Additional information stands offered insights into other regional initiatives such as the Lusatia - Life & Technology alliance, the Saxony5 joint project, the Circular Saxony innovation cluster and the neo.NET e.V. association.
The "Business Meets Science" event once again proved to be an important platform for dialog between universities and regional businesses. It provided important impetus for the sustainable development of the Lusatian region and underlined the importance of cooperation between research and companies.
The event was jointly organized by the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the General Business Association Zittau und Umgebung e.V., the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. Many thanks to all co-organizers, guests and active participants who contributed to this successful event.
