11th IMS breakfast on the topic of "Classic and agile project management methods
Today's working life is project-based and the proportion is increasing. Formalized project management is generally essential. The choice of methods is diverse. Two approaches were presented at the 11th IMS Breakfast: classic project management with PRINCE II by Hartmut Paetzold and agile project management according to Scrum by Markus Will. Both presentations were followed by discussions between company representatives as well as employees and students from the "Integrated Management Systems" department. It quickly became clear that agile methods have found their way into classic projects in practice, such as the processing of work packages by means of so-called "sprints" in order to react more flexibly to customer requests, the definition of fixed teams for project processing from which disruptions are shielded or the discussion of the work status in the context of daily/weekly stand-up meetings. The planning of project phases and milestones as well as reporting is often still carried out in the traditional way. Modern project management is hybrid. The co-organizer of the breakfast, TÜV-Rheinland Akademie GmbH, also presented a wide range of further training opportunities in the field of project management.
Project management is not only a compulsory module for the participating students on the "Integrated Management Systems"/"Integrated Management" Master's courses, but they will also independently manage, work on and defend a project in the coming winter semester, e.g. to prepare a company for certification in accordance with ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety management systems) in the regional companies.
