Making everyday study life more efficient

The HSZG has reached another milestone in its digital transformation. From March 1, it will be the first university in Saxony to introduce the digital Campus Card.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) is the first university in Saxony to introduce the digital Campus Card! From March 1, 2025, HSZG students will be able to use their student ID conveniently via the "MyHSZG" campus app on their smartphone. The new digital Campus Card serves as official proof of student status and can be used to borrow media from the university library using barcodes. In addition, students can activate their Deutschlandticket directly in the Campus Card and use it on local and regional public transport throughout Germany.

In the coming months, further functions will be activated on the digital student ID card to make everyday student life at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences even more efficient. These include access to university buildings and a payment function for the canteen and the printing service on campus.

How the digital Campus Card works:
  1. Download the "MyHSZG" app (iOS App Store / Google Play Store).
  2. Register with the university login.
  3. Select the "Campus Card" under "My studies".
  4. Accept and confirm the terms of use.
  5. Select ticket and digital functions - done!

The digital ID card is also planned for university employees. As a digital employee ID card, it will enable not only access control, but also the recording of working hours and other internal university services.

With these enhancements, the digital ID card will become a central tool of the digital university.

As the Student Council, we support the university in its efforts to improve the everyday life of all students through the digitalization of processes. With the introduction of the digital campus card in the "MyHSZG" app, students will always have their semester ticket, library card and other functions to hand, just a few clicks away. We are delighted with the good cooperation with the university and our partners.

Implementation of the project

The development and implementation of the digital Campus Card was carried out by an agile project team with the involvement of students from the university. A central element of this project was the development of the HSZG API, which enables a seamless link between the campus management system and the campus app. This interface ensures secure and efficient data transfer and provides essential information for the digital Campus Card.

With the digital Campus Card, our students have all the important services in their pocket for a more convenient campus life.

Lars Rönisch, Head of the University Computer Center

In addition to the technical implementation, a comprehensive test phase with the students also played a central role. During this phase, valuable feedback was collected in order to optimize user-friendliness and implement possible improvements at an early stage. Thanks to the close cooperation of all those involved, it was possible to create an innovative and efficient solution that best meets the needs of the students.

The success of this project shows how important teamwork between students and the university's structural units is. Together, we were able to launch an innovative solution that makes everyday study life much easier.
