The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will be present at the "Europafest" on April 27 with various stands on interesting topics of trinational cooperation.
On April 27, there will be a celebration among friends: on Europe Day at the Dreiländerpunkt. There we will build further bridges between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. Since the Czech Republic and Poland joined the European Union 20 years ago, cross-border projects have been flourishing in the region, including here at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
Visit us and many other partners at the stands, enjoy the "Europe of Children" and the cultural program on the festival stage with your family.

The ZIRKON Institute of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences presents itself with various interesting topics on sustainability in the three-country region.
Waste management and recycling: a cross-border topic! This is why our employees report on the tradition of the "Zittau-Liberec Recycling and Landfill Workshop". The history goes back to 2005, when it was organized by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schönherr from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with Doc. Ing. Jan Šembera, Ph.D. from the Technical University of Liberec. The primary motivation for the specialist workshop was to compare technologies and legal regulations in the areas of waste management and recycling on both sides of the border. Where do we stand on these issues today, what is the focus of research today compared to 20 years ago?
Soils - Discover the water filters at our feet - presentation of a small demonstration plant, which was opened as a large-scale test facility in Bautzen/Nadelwitz in 2007 in Czech-German cooperation.
Silicone elastomers - what else is there to research in terms of materials that no bathroom is complete without? We think: quite a lot! We are investigating the suitability of these materials as high-voltage insulators and are focusing on the damage mechanisms. We work in an international setting and have regular visitors from the TU Liberec.
Strong research for the region and beyond takes place in our Zittau power plant laboratory. A team from our Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM ) takes visitors into the laboratory using VR glasses and is available to answer questions. The construction of the Zittau power plant laboratory is one of the largest research investments since the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1992 and was made possible with the help of the European Regional Development Fund.
Life and Technology (L&T) is about discovering the many facets of cross-border cooperation in the heart of Europe - in the context of innovation and technology transfer as well as a changing society. Leonie Liemich, Birgit Benesch-Jenkner, Renke Scholz and Raffael Hermann invite you as visitors to join them in exciting discussions and projects on energy efficiency, energy security and sustainability and to contribute your own opinions. With the graphic recording posters, we present the most important arguments on energy efficiency and energy security in the three-country region. Our dedicated students from the Master's program "Management of Social Change" present their work from the research internship on the topic of "Nation State Borders". We are particularly proud of our German-Polish project "Green Future of the Border Region", which has just been launched. Find out how sustainability and energy play a key role in our cross-border cooperation and what prospects are opening up for a green future.
But that's not all! We would also like to hear your voice and cordially invite you to take part in our survey on German-Czech-Polish perspectives on sustainability. Your opinion is important to us and will help us to jointly develop forward-looking solutions for our region.
The GAT 's AAL laboratory is a guest at the Europafest at . Current assistance technologies are presented to a broad public. The "LivingLab" creates the conditions for the transfer of research results into the living environment of older people, their relatives, housing companies, care providers, health organizations, politics and the trades. In a Görlitz apartment in the KommWohnen-Frauenburgkarree, various technical assistance systems are available to make everyday life easier for senior citizens and improve their quality of life. All of them can be tried out on site to assess whether they actually make things easier in your own household.
The well-being and resilience of informal and professional caregivers determines whether they are able to provide good care. The WELL CARE project, based in parts of at the HSCG's GAT Institute, is aligned with the latest EU care strategy. WELL CARE focuses on identifying, evaluating and promoting good practice measures to promote the resilience and mental health of informal and long-term caregivers.
The project spans four years (2024 - 2027) and is being carried out in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Slovenia, as well as with partners at EU level and a US researcher. WELL CARE is a Europe-wide research project funded by the European Union's research and innovation program "Horizon Europe"
The results of the Kyoto (1997) and Paris (2016) climate conferences have led to national and international commitments and climate protection programs. This resulted in targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An important and necessary component of the German and European climate protection program is the energy transition. The dismantling of conventional fossil fuel power plants also affects the Lusatian coal region in Saxony. The switch to renewable energies offers opportunities and possibilities for research and development of new technologies and for the establishment of industrial partners. Professor Uwe Schmidt from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will be available to answer questions at the stand.
Our university sports department will also be on site. Prospective students have the opportunity to make a spontaneous consultation appointment.
