HSCG employees demonstrated the power of well-functioning teams and LEGO marble runs at the after-work event "Lego & Limette" at Celsiuz.
A marble run is a marble run, is a marble run. Or so you might think. Generally speaking, it is a construction made up of various track elements on which marbles roll along an exciting and often complex route.
At Celsiuz, the HSZG's Co-Creation Lab, a meeting place for ideas and experimentation, the winning marble even ended up in a treasure chest at the end of the summer semester at the first edition of "Lego & Limette".
The new after-work event offered employees of the HSZG and our neighbors in the Mandau-Höfe, DLR and Fraunhofer IEG, the opportunity to get to know each other better outside of the working environment and to create an atmosphere in which trusting cooperation becomes a reality.
Egmont Schreiter from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science presented the "Energy Trail" project planned at the HSZG in a short, snappy keynote speech. The Saxony5 team will also offer this opportunity to get to know promising projects from other colleagues and to network further at subsequent events.
This was followed by the announcement of the challenge, which was: "Build a marble run in 30 minutes." Teams of two were then drawn by lot and the winning conditions were agreed together.
Behind the childlike game of a Lego challenge is the idea that well-functioning teams are able to work together effectively, exchange ideas and achieve goals together. To strengthen team dynamics and improve collaboration, more and more companies are turning to after-work events and innovative methods such as "LEGO Serious Play".
LEGO bricks are used to visualize complex problems and find solutions. This method allows participants to express their thoughts and ideas in a creative and interactive way.
At the end, the building time was extended to 45 minutes and the participants then had a pizza together to evaluate who had the most creative model, who had been particularly ambitious and what the task might be next time. The test for the new after-work event format was definitely a success - employees from three faculties, central institutions and the Fraunhofer IEG were gathered together.
We warmly welcome all curious employees to the second edition of Lego & Limette on October 18! Please register in advance at: saxony5(at)hszg.de, places are limited.
We would also like to thank Daniel Winkler, from whom we were able to borrow the Lego equipment without any complications. Interested university members are welcome to contact him.
