We buy clothes to keep us warm, like now in winter, to be chic or to make a fashion statement. But what is behind this so-called "textile chain" - from the cultivation of cotton to the mostly industrially manufactured item of clothing? The traveling exhibition "Tuchfühlung - From pure washing and whitewashing" looks at the ecological, economic, social and political aspects of clothing. From 24.01.2018 at 14:00 , the exhibition will welcome visitors to the auditorium of House G I on the Görlitz campus, Furtstraße 2.
The mobile exhibition "Tuchfühlung" sheds light on the labels and patches and also makes the people behind them visible. A total of ten audio stations with additional text panels provide visitors with a free insight into the world of the clothing industry and its ecological, economic and humanitarian impact. The idea of the Görlitz-based association Tierra - Eine Welt e.V. immediately convinced a group of 13 students on the Social Work. They designed and developed this unique traveling exhibition as part of a one-year project at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and in cooperation with Tierra - Eine Welt e.V..
The barrier-free closet built for this purpose not only provides information and knowledge in written and audiovisual form, but also haptic, lovingly designed art. Objects are used for visualization, each symbolizing a step in the textile chain.
"Tuchfühlung" also offers visitors practical knowledge for possible solutions and their own alternative actions for a more conscious approach to clothing and the purchase of textiles. "I really enjoyed working on this exhibition and it was very informative. I'm really looking forward to the exhibition opening in January," says project participant Stefanie Lehmann.
The exhibition about the mobile closet will initially be on display in the Bluebox auditorium in Görlitz from 2 p.m. on 24 January 2018 before coming to Zittau in the 2018 summer semester. Admission is free.
