After successfully completing the Bachelor's degree course in Social Work  and passing the final colloquium, you can obtain state recognition as a "Social Worker" from the State Directorate of Saxony.

The bachelor's degree program in social work offers practical professional training on a scientific basis. Students should be qualified to deal with complex psychosocial problems on the basis of scientific knowledge and methodical concepts of action. Science, research and practice form an indispensable unit. The integration of two practical semesters, which is particularly ambitious nationwide, ensures a high level of practical relevance.

Particularities when applying for the Social Work course

In order to apply for the Social Work degree program, it is first necessary to register with the nationwide application portal hochschulstart.de. There, applicants receive an applicant ID, which can be used to apply further at the applicant portal of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The entries of personal data at hochschulstart.de are transferred to the application portal of the HSZG and do not have to be entered twice.

  • Target group

    Social work is a human rights profession.

    The Social Work degree course is suitable for people who want to make a contribution to solving social problems and are committed to social participation for all.

    Previous experience is welcome but not a prerequisite.

  • Contents

    The course focuses on the two areas of intervention and organization. Personal concepts and methods of action in the context of upbringing, education, gender, care, counseling, treatment, support,
    empowerment and rehabilitation are the basis for helping and supporting people in social emergencies, taking into account the particularities of their age.

    The integrated study structure with two practical phases provides a comprehensive insight into the field of work. Thanks to the close supervision provided by the university and the consistent linking of specialist knowledge to practical requirements, all related sciences of social work (psychology, educational science, sociology, law, medicine, etc.) are linked in the curriculum.

    The course contents of intervention and organizational theory, project and social management as well as social planning and ethics also serve the further development of social services.

  • Study objective

    The Bachelor's degree in Social Work is a scientifically based course of study. Students are qualified to deal with complex psychosocial stress and need situations on the basis of scientific theories and methods as well as professional action concepts. In addition to analytical and problem-solving skills, the course teaches the ability for self-organized learning in conjunction with in-depth knowledge of action in the context of social work.

    After passing the final colloquium, the Bachelor of Social Work enables students to apply for state recognition as a "social worker" at the Saxony State Directorate.

  • Career prospects

    Social change is leading to a growing need for social workers.
    Social workers work in many professional fields under various job titles:

    • in the field of youth and social welfare as specialists in municipal youth and social welfare offices and in social services at charitable organizations
    • in the field of offender support as probation officers or juvenile court assistants
    • in counseling centers, e.g. in marriage, family, youth, pregnancy conflict and addiction counseling centers
    • in inpatient and community-based facilities for elderly care and health care, e.g. social services
    • in hospitals and health authorities
    • in independent child and youth welfare services, e.g. in youth centers, as street workers, in experiential education

     

    The career opportunities for social work professionals are diverse. Their skills are also in demand in management positions in social work organizations and institutions.

    The Bachelor's degree course in Social Work qualifies students to take up a Master's degree course.

    After passing the final colloquium, the Bachelor's degree in Social Work enables students to apply for state recognition as a "social worker" from the State Directorate of Saxony.
