StrukturWANDEL Conference

Gender equality in transformation processes

Begin 02. October 2024 - 12:00 Uhr
City Socio-cultural center TELUX Weißwasser

Since 2020, the municipal equal opportunities commissioners of Lusatia have been working together with the equal opportunities commissioner of the state of Brandenburg, accompanied by the TRAWOS Institute of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, to promote gender-equitable structural change at various levels.

The alliance is an association of women from Saxony and Brandenburg who see Lusatia, which is divided into two federal states, as one region. Over the past three years, they have helped to ensure that questions of gender equality have been included in discussions about structural change in Lusatia. Commitment at municipal level alone will not be enough to achieve gender equality in structural change and thus advance the socio-ecological transformation in a gender-equitable way. Gender equality is a joint task for the federal government, federal states, municipalities and civil society. Municipal gender equality work needs more support from the EU, the federal government and the federal states than ever before.

Last year, the alliance discussed its position paper and key demands with representatives of the European Commission, members of the European Parliament and European organizations during a trip to Brussels. These are:

  1. Creation of a gender-sensitive database
  2. Advice and training for managers and people with decision-making powers
  3. Creation of transparency and comprehensive and ongoing participation
  4. Gender equality in the implementation of the Structural Reinforcement Act
  5. Innovative and viable training and jobs for women
  6. Equivalence of hard and soft location factors
  7. Creation of a specialist office for gender equality in Lusatia

The first structural change conference for women took place in Spremberg in 2022, now the second conference is to follow. The planned conference is for all people who want to change and further change the structure in Lusatia. Against the background described above, the challenges and needs with regard to gender equality in structural change will once again be highlighted. The conference closes the gap between knowledge about the unequal consequences of structural change processes and the ability to act. Furthermore, the available data on the situation of women in Lusatia will be broken down to a practical and comprehensible level and the role of gender equality officers will be highlighted.

There will be panels on topics such as European networking and European women's networks, gender equality aspects in structural change, science meets practice, practical examples of successful gender equality in companies and the opportunity of generational conflicts in the context of gender equality and structural change.
