There are many views on the question of what makes a successful leader. One thing is certain: leading a company means making a large number of strategic and operational decisions that require specialist knowledge. Last but not least, managers must be open to change, as more and more companies are becoming more digital or are marketing their products in other countries. The part-time Bachelor's degree program in Business Management qualifies you as a future manager in business, especially for small and medium-sized companies. In 2.5 years, you will acquire the necessary management knowledge for various business areas in a combination of self-study and attendance phases.

  • Admission requirements
    • State-recognized degree in business administration or business administration (IHK, HWK, VWA, technical college, banking academy)
    • Applicants with a qualification as a technician, business administrator, master craftsman or similar Completion of advanced vocational training in accordance with §18(3) of the SächsHSFG must attend a counseling interview for general university admission.
    • Alternatively, it is possible to obtain the necessary 60 ECTS points by passing a separate entrance examination (2-hour written exam and admission interview)
    • Prospective students with a general higher education entrance qualification who have already successfully completed at least 2 semesters of full-time studies in business and economics
  • Target group

    The Business Management course is aimed at business economists/commercial specialists and master craftsmen with a recognized qualification (HWK, IHK, VWA, Fachschule, Bankakademie) who have professional experience and want to deepen their knowledge of business management without having to leave their professional career.

  • Contents

    The course comprises five three-day attendance phases per semester and around the same number of transfer days, during which you apply the newly acquired knowledge in your everyday work. In addition, there are around 15 hours per week for self-study.

  • Study program
    • 1st to 3rd semester: Basic studies
    • 4th semester: Specialization: Management in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
    • 5th semester: Bachelor's thesis and defense


    The course comprises 20 modules and the Bachelor's thesis, subject to the recognition of 60 ECTS credits. Each module concludes with a performance record (written or oral examination) or a document/transfer work (application of your professional practice) in guided self-study.

    You will acquire the course content primarily through self-study and in the attendance phases. The workload during self-study is approximately 15 hours per week. There are five attendance phases per semester, primarily at the Dresden Chamber of Crafts, each lasting three days (Thu-Sat).

  • Tuition fee

    The tuition fee for the 1st to 4th semester amounts to a total of 13,700 euros. The amount includes: Enrolment fee, attendance study documents (scripts), module examinations and the semester fee for the standard period of study of 5 semesters.

    An additional examination fee of 800 euros is charged in the 5th semester. The amount includes: Taking the final examination and the supervision and assessment of the Bachelor's thesis.  All prices are final prices, as educational services are currently VAT-free.

    Whether the course will be offered depends on the number of students enrolled and unfortunately cannot be guaranteed. 

  • Career prospects

    As a graduate of the part-time Bachelor's degree programme in Business Management, you can work in a wide variety of fields in the private sector, such as corporate management, human resources management, business organization and planning or controlling.

    You also have the opportunity to continue your studies in the Master's degree programme to deepen your business knowledge or specialize.
