Some of you may have wondered what the library staff do during the long summer vacation, when opening hours are reduced and there are very few students and university staff on site. Of course, this is also the main vacation time for library staff. But there is also a lot of work to do to maintain the collections.
For this summer, this means, among other things, that an inventory is being carried out in the university library in Görlitz to check the media stock and bring the stock figures up to date.
To do this, the staff systematically scan the entire media stock via the computer to check whether the respective medium actually has the location on the shelf that was assigned to it according to the catalog. At the same time, it is also determined whether a medium is missing or whether it was considered missing and has now been found again. Other errors, such as incorrect shelfmarks, are also corrected on this occasion.
Although stocktaking is not necessarily the most varied activity, it is important - because users also benefit from the even more reliable media research.
