Translating and interpreting in the border triangle

The HSZG presented itself as a strong and competent partner at the international conference on April 6 and 7.

The international conference "Translating and Interpreting between Tradition and Innovation" took place on April 6 and 7, 2017. The event was hosted by the "Business and Languages" course at the Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies.

Renowned linguists and translation scholars from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany analyzed translation and interpreting from the perspective of modern applied sciences. More than half of the almost 60 participants came from our Erasmus partner universities in Poland and the Czech Republic

On the second day of the conference, our graduates also reported on their diverse professional experiences in interpreting and translating. The lively and exciting discussions went on beyond the end of the conference and continued that evening at our annual graduate reunion.

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences presented itself at the conference "Translating and Interpreting between Tradition and Innovation" on 06/07.04.2017:

  • as a center of international academic exchange on translation and interpreting between the German language on the one hand and the world language ENGLISH as well as the two neighboring languages CZECH and POLISH on the other.
  • as a platform for the personal exchange of ideas and numerous opportunities to make new contacts, be it with interpreters and translators or with potential clients in the region.
  • as an important factor in the region's continuing education program with almost 40 presentations to all language mediators in our three-country region.
  • as a strong international partner, in particular due to our ERASMUS contracts. The numerous Polish and Czech conference participants know Zittau and Görlitz as an attractive study location for international student exchange as well as for international lecturer mobility, in which the strengths of the respective university and our university benefit students on both sides. With this conference, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is continuing to develop its profile in the functional areas of expertise "Bridge to Poland, the Czech Republic and MEO countries".
  • As a competence center in translation management for the regional economy, which still far too often puts its good name and competitiveness at risk with cheap, amateurish and embarrassing translations.

For us lecturers, the combination of theory and practice at this conference provided stimulating discussions and fresh ideas for innovative teaching and practice-oriented research.
