The third day of the successfully reaccredited Social Gerontology course is dedicated to career prospects.
On October 1, 2021 - the International Day of Older Persons - the first Social Gerontology Study Day took place at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
As part of a scientific lecture, Dr. Anne Münch (Berlin) presented the results of her dissertation on the stressful experiences of family caregivers of people with dementia. The students had the opportunity to ask questions about the methodological approach, field access, the evaluation of the interviews and gender aspects.
This was followed by a discussion on the career prospects offered by a degree in social gerontology. In three input presentations, Kerstin Motzer, senior citizens' representative for the city of Leipzig, Matthias Reuter, social planner and care coordinator for the district of Görlitz, and Volker Amrhein, long-standing head of the Generation Dialog project, provided insights into their professional fields and answered questions on all aspects of starting a career. The event clearly showed how important social gerontologists are in various areas of administration, politics and civil society - and will probably be even more so in the future.
The part-time Master's degree course in Social Gerontology has successfully completed reaccreditation. The course is now accredited until 28.09.2029. It qualifies students for numerous professional fields in the areas of elderly care and work with the elderly, demographic and senior citizen policy as well as science and consulting. The degree also offers access to the higher civil service.
