Zittau students graduate with honors in mechanical engineering.
It is still the exception rather than the rule that young women are interested in technical courses. But they do exist, these exceptions. And it recently became clear just how successfully women can complete an engineering degree.
A few days ago, 86 students from the 2014/2015 graduating class of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences received their certificates. Among them were two exceptionally good female graduates from the Mechanical Engineering course - Ms. Rebecca Leska and Ms. Carolin Heinze - who completed their studies with an overall grade of "distinction". Ms. Mareen Hilbert, with an overall grade of "very good", is also one of the best students in her year. These examples impressively show that young women can also complete their studies in technical disciplines extremely successfully and can certainly keep up with their male fellow students, even outperforming them.
Despite intensive efforts and offensive campaigns such as Girls Day, too few young women still choose to study technical subjects. This often ignores the enormous future opportunities on the job market and the very good earning potential.
So, dear young women interested in technology, make the most of your opportunities and take up a course of study in the STEM subjects. The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences offers you excellent study conditions and a modern education with a high practical component, which will qualify you well for a responsible and independent career.
