Studentenwerk Dresden launches appeal for donations for students in need

Studentenwerk Dresden has been awarding one-off grants (non-repayable subsidies) to students quickly and unbureaucratically for many years - to bridge temporary social and financial emergencies.

There is a special fund for this, which is fed from the student semester fees. This fund is normally sufficient for a whole year. Grants are awarded following a case-by-case assessment and advice from social advisors on ways to stabilize the student's personal situation in the long term.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has led to many more students than usual finding themselves in financial difficulties, as they have either lost their part-time job as a source of income or are unable to work for an indefinite period of time. Single parents, students with child(ren) and international students are particularly affected.

Although the Studentenwerk is also helping the students of eight universities in its area of responsibility in other ways - e.g. by deferring dormitory rents or extending student loans - the emergency fund of €54 thousand has already been completely exhausted by the corona crisis.

That is why we are asking you, dear university staff, for help! Of course, companies and private individuals are also welcome to donate.

If you would like to help ensure that no student has to abandon their studies for financial reasons through no fault of their own, please send your donation to the following account details:
