Can certain plants make the fields healthier?
Agriculture is under great pressure. Every year, part of the arable land has to be used for ecological compensation measures and less and less fertilizer and spraying is allowed. In the "Biodiversity in Agriculture" project, Jana Dörnchen-Neumann and her team from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences worked with farmers to investigate how biodiversity is faring on the areas with compensation measures - with some very pleasing results!
The next step is to work with the farmers to see whether chemical sprays can be replaced by growing very special plants. See for yourself:
