In future, interested students will be able to study the new course in Görlitz, which is unique in East Saxony.
Subject to ministerial approval, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will offer the new "B.Sc. Nursing" course at the Görlitz campus in the future. Due to its generalist orientation, this course of study is unique in East Saxony.
Generalist means that it combines the professions of nursing, pediatric nursing and geriatric nursing and teaches skills that enable students to provide science-based, independent, comprehensive and process-oriented care to people of all ages in acute and long-term inpatient and outpatient care settings. Modern nursing is a medical profession, this degree program forms the theoretical basis for professional action on people and thus also contributes to improving the quality of care, especially in the Lusatia region.
This course of study is open to anyone who has a university entrance qualification (Abitur or general higher education entrance qualification, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences) or, alternatively, has completed vocational training with professional experience and an aptitude test in accordance with the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act (SächsHSFG).
The course is based on the new Nursing Professions Act, which came into force on 01.01.2020. The course comprises eight semesters and includes theoretical, training and practical components that take place at the university, in the university's own nursing simulation laboratories (SkillsLab and SimLab) and in the HSZG's academic teaching facilities in the hospital, nursing home and outpatient care sectors. Students complete the course with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing), which includes, among other things, professional certification as a nursing specialist in accordance with the Nursing Professions Act.
This course of study is EU-compliant, which is why the university degree is fully recognized as equivalent throughout the European Union, which is not the case with traditional nursing training at a vocational college.
The degree program is located at the Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies of the HSZG at the Görlitz campus. The course director, Prof. Dr. Martin Knoll, will be happy to provide further information at pflege(at)hszg.de.
