Teaching award in student hands

The university plans to award the teaching prize in 2023 in accordance with the university's new teaching prize regulations.

Since 2015, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, together with the university's support association, has regularly awarded a prize for above-average commitment and outstanding achievements in teaching at the HSZG.

After extensive discussions with the deans of studies, the faculties and the student council over the past few months, the procedure was modernized by Dr. Sommer and the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Professor Keil. The main changes concern the nomination procedure and the composition of the selection committee. In future, only students at the university will be entitled to submit proposals. Another special feature is that in future, student members will have the majority of votes in the seven-member independent selection committee. Strengthening students' opportunities for participation was an important concern for the Rectorate and the Senate. Another new feature is an online nomination platform, which is currently being set up.

As Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, it is very important to me that our students are at the center of our university processes. I am very pleased that with the amendment to the teaching award regulations, the sole right to nominate for the teaching award is in their hands. The majority of votes on the selection committee also reflects our strong commitment to the fact that students are at the heart of our university community and that their voice is decisive.
Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs

What has remained unchanged is that the Förderverein has kindly provided a considerable amount of prize money, which is by no means a matter of course, and that both teachers as individuals and groups of teachers can be nominated. The criteria for reviewing the nominations and selecting an award winner have also remained the same.

The university plans to award the Teaching Prize 2023 soon in accordance with the university's new teaching prize regulations. Dear students, please be vigilant. After the upcoming turn of the year, there will be a call for proposals for this year's teaching award. You are welcome to start thinking about award-worthy teachers now and talk to your fellow students in search of supporters. We look forward to a lively participation!

Thank you very much!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. It is this association that has made past and future awards possible in the first place.
