"Global transformation in the economy and society - a challenge for science and education" - this was the slogan of a scientific forum held on October 6 and 7 to mark the 30th anniversary of TURAN University Almaty (Kazakhstan).
The forum was attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Sajasat Nurbeck, and over 50 leading national and international scientists and university professors. In his speech, the Minister pointed out in particular that TURAN University must position itself as a
- center of innovation, scientific and technical progress, a cadre forge and practical partner of the regional (South Kazakh) region.
- Science, research and higher education must be developed in close cooperation with the needs of the real economy and real life.
- Universities should also see themselves as training centers for the regional economy.
From a German perspective, it should be noted that the fundamental orientation of Kazakh higher education policy is in line with the German understanding of higher education.
Further basic presentations for further work in working groups were provided by:
Prof. Dr. Roland Giese, visiting professor at TURAN University, supervisor of more than 10 successful doctoral projects
Prof. Dr. Blagoev, Ivan, State University of Management, Sofia
Prof. Dr. Jesus Garcia Laborde, Spain
Prof. Dr. Aliev, Urak, Rector of TURAN University Astana, member of the Academy of Economic Sciences
Prof. Sharad, Kumar Jamaica.
This list illustrates the global networking of TURAN University.
Many fundamental questions were discussed, such as the future research and education landscape in Kazakhstan, i.e. at the intersection between a medium-term Russian (Soviet Union) oriented past, a rising China, a strengthening orientation towards a long-term Turkish (Ottoman, Persian) past and the current, fundamentally Western, i.e. English-oriented scientific landscape.
As part of the event, a Central Asia-oriented event of the globally organized Milset organization took place - the MILSET EXPO SCIENCES VOSTOK 2022. This organization specializes in marketing the concept of "Jungend forscht" worldwide.
Furthermore, Prof. Giese was accepted into the "Club of Economic Experts" as a thank you for the long-standing cooperation between TURAN University and the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz with over 50 guest research stays of Kazakh scientists and students in Germany (Zittau / Görlitz) and the active supervision of Kazakh doctoral students for over 10 years.
This status is roughly comparable to the status of an honorary senator at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, so the practical consequences are limited. Nevertheless, such an honor naturally has a high emotional significance and is an acknowledgement of previous activities.
The admission to the Club of Economic Experts was made by the Rector of the University of TURAN, Prof. Dr. oec. habil. Rachman Alschanov, current Chairman of the Rectors' Conference of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Academy of Economic Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
