Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and ITMO University St. Petersburg adopt training and examination concept for TÜV certificate courses at HSZG.
What do the HSZG, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and ITMO University St. Petersburg have in common? Students at all three universities have the opportunity to obtain TÜV certificates, which are in high demand on the job market.
Thanks to a cooperation agreement with TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH, it has been possible at the HSZG for many years to obtain certification as a management representative as an additional qualification as part of the degree course. This includes special qualifications that are in high demand on the job market: Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001, EMAS), Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001) and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001).
This HSZG training and examination concept has now been successfully transferred to the aforementioned partner universities.
An initiative by students at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences has been bearing fruit since the summer semester of 2018. Based on the long-standing collaboration between Prof. Delakowitz and Prof. Brauweiler from the HSZG and Prof. Schneider from Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, Magdeburg students were able to obtain the TÜV certificate "Environmental Management Systems according to ISO 14001 and EMAS" at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for the first time in the summer semester of 2018. This has resulted in intensive cooperation, which now also includes the certificate for occupational health and safety management in accordance with ISO 45001.
Thanks to Prof. Schneider's special exam preparation, students at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences can now take these exams at the HSZG. To this end, students complete extracurricular modules and exam preparations. As the experiences of 2018 graduates show, the certificates improve their chances of entering professional life. This is why the offer has met with great interest among students. In the 2019 summer semester, 43 students from various disciplines at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences took part in the environmental management certificate course. The students value the experience and practical relevance of the course and would like to see it expanded to include quality management.
The supervising professors, Prof. Brauweiler and Prof. Schneider, appreciate the students' interest and commitment. Both welcome further networking between the universities. The professors plan to extend the cooperation to suitable project approaches and publications in the field of management systems.
Based on the positive experience with Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, the target group was expanded to include foreign students. Close cooperation and a double degree have existed between the Master's degree courses "Integrated Management Systems/Integrated Management" at the HSZG and "Industrial Ecology and Cleaner Production" at ITMO University since 2017. In future, Russian students from ITMO University will also be able to obtain the TÜV certificate for "Environmental Management Systems according to ISO 14001" at the HSZG.
In order to create the necessary framework conditions, Prof. Brauweiler trained the Russian lecturers in May 2019 as part of a TÜV course in English and gave them the above-mentioned exam. They are now able to qualify their students according to this training concept. The TÜV examination itself will then be taken by Prof. Brauweiler and representatives of TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH on site in St. Petersburg for the first time in May 2020.
Future-oriented and progressive results such as these are only possible through the cooperation of many players. We would like to thank Mr Robert Viertel from the Centre for Knowledge Transfer and Education for his organizational support in implementing the TÜV courses and Ms Stephanie Ludwig from the Department of Studies and International Affairs for supporting the trip abroad via the ERASMUS + programme.
