At this year's Flight Day, students from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Industrial Engineering were once again flying high.
On June 3, 15 students and 4 professors (Prof. Kroschel, Prof. Fichna, Prof. Zips, Prof. Wendt) came together to fly.
Prof. Kroschel himself traveled from Dresden in a Comco Ikarus C-42 ultralight aircraft. This is a two-seater with a cruising speed of 150 km/h and a range of over 600 km.
Prof. Kroschel took 10 of our 15 students on a 15-minute sightseeing flight over Görlitz, the Landeskrone and Lake Berzdorf in his own microlight. In addition, two gliders and a motor glider were used, which the students and professors were also able to fly in. The gliders were partly winch-launched and partly towed into the air. This meant that every student was able to fly at least once, and most flew several times.
The perfect flying weather allowed the participants to admire the Zittau Mountains to the south and the Jeschken near Liberec and the Krkonoše Mountains to the south-east. Looking north-west, they could see as far as the Boxberg and Schwarze Pumpe power stations from the plane.
The day ended with a barbecue together.
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Economics and Industrial Engineering would like to thank Prof. Kroschel, Prof. Fichna and the Görlitzer Flugsportclub e.V. on behalf of the students for a unique experience.
Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Jörg Kroschel found his way to our university in 2007 after studying economics at the University of Dortmund and writing his dissertation on US tax law at TU Dresden. He is now Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Industrial Engineering.
Before joining the HSZG, Prof. Kroschel worked at the Dresden branch of Ernst & Young, one of the Big 4 auditing firms.
He has held a pilot's license and an ultralight aircraft since 2016, and now he is taking students and colleagues alike high up again.
