HSZG strengthens international cooperation

Rector Kratzsch signs Memorandum of Understanding with new Saxon-Egyptian university.

As part of the ceremonial opening of the first Saxon-Egyptian university in Cairo - Saxony Egypt University for Applied Science & Technology (SEU) - the Free State of Saxony and Egypt have significantly expanded their educational cooperation. Alexander Kratzsch accompanied Minister President Michael Kretschmer on his trip to Egypt and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the newly founded university on site.

The aim of the Memorandum of Understanding is to promote the exchange of students, initiate joint research projects and enable study-related training in German as well as study preparation via a preparatory college. In addition to the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau also signed corresponding agreements with the SEU.

"Egypt is a strategic partner for the Free State of Saxony. That's why I used the trip with our Prime Minister to explore opportunities for cooperation in research and teaching with the DAAD Egypt and the Goethe-Institut Cairo," emphasized Rector Kratzsch. He was particularly impressed by the great interest shown by Egyptian students in studying in Germany.

During a discussion with students from the Goethe-Institut, it once again became clear how strong the interest in practice-oriented academic education is in Germany. This is precisely where our Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences can help - we combine teaching and practice in a unique way, for example in the KIA program.

The new Saxony Egypt University for Applied Science & Technology, initiated by the Saxony International School Carl Hahn, offers degree programs with a strong practical focus in areas such as nursing, public health care, cyber security, logistics, sports management and mechatronics.

Minister President Michael Kretschmer sees the project as an important boost for both countries: "The opening of the Saxony Egypt University for Applied Science and Technology is an important milestone for educational cooperation between Saxony and Egypt. The university is bringing the tried and tested dual training system to Cairo, thereby strengthening the training of skilled workers in key sectors. Especially in a globalized world, well-trained young people are the key to economic success and an essential part of the solution to the shortage of skilled workers. I am convinced that this cooperation will benefit both sides - it opens up new perspectives for Egyptian students, promotes international exchange and will strengthen Saxon companies in the future. Saxony Egypt University is an outstanding example of how education builds bridges - between countries, cultures and the economy. I am delighted about this step and look forward to the successes that this university will bring in the coming years."
