New boiler attendant at IPM

Mr. Steffen Härtelt (IPM) successfully completed his training as a boiler attendant in September.

In September, Mr. Steffen Härtelt became the fourth employee of the Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM ) to successfully complete his training as a boiler attendant. With this qualification, he is now able to independently operate the THERESA test facility in the Zittau power plant laboratory, which is subject to mandatory monitoring. As part of his work in the IPM's Measurement Technology/Process Automation department, he is currently working on research projects for the development and experimental qualification of thermal energy storage systems.

The three-week course, which was financially supported by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, provided theoretical and practical knowledge about the safe operation, maintenance and servicing of steam boiler systems and their safety-related equipment. In addition, the participants were comprehensively informed about the existing legal and normative regulations, such as the Product Safety Act, the Pressure Equipment Directive and the Technical Rules for Operational Safety.

With the successful completion of the course, the personnel and technical orientation of the research group has been optimized in line with the growing requirements of current and upcoming projects: From now on, long-term experiments lasting several days can be easily secured in the Zittau power plant laboratory.

The institute management congratulates Mr. Härtelt on passing his exam and wishes him every success in his future work.
